Blog Y'ttar Tries to Paint Things...

Finished painting the sculpted bases on the Thorns of the Briar Queen (so many roses!)

Also finished the unit champion of the Sequitors. I've often botched up attempts to paint faces, I think this time with a little patience and research it has come out a bit more realistic.

Finally, I managed to rush finish four Glaivewraiths over three nights (and far too many washes) in time for the month end.

Now to trying to finish the Garden of Morr, more Glaivewraiths (with scary textured bases), and some character models...

Those Nighthaunts look amazing!!
What are your plans for basing them?

Keep up the good work.

Grrr, Imrahil

Good question-thing, I have a pot of Stirland mud that I was going to test on a spare base. If it comes out well, i'll probably use that as the base and add a few spare skulls and other bits from my old sprues. Not sure I fancy sculpting flagstones and roses... :P

And some more Glaivewraiths and the Dreadblade with base painted.
I really love the detailed sculpted bases with the push fit models...but they take ages to paint...
Also zombie crow has become a ghost crow instead. I think it makes it look more adorable that way. :p

I've started the Blackstone Fortress models.

First up is the Spindle Drones which I did a speed paint method for:

Undercoat/base of Mechanicus Grey, washed Nuln Oil and Drakenhof Nightshade before drybrushing Eshin Grey, Russ Grey, Fenrisian Grey, and Dawnstone before painting the lenses with a watered down Screamer Pink and picking out a dot in the centre of the main lenses with watered down Fenrisian Grey.

Last month I managed to get some of the Blackstone Fortress models painted, still not enough for a game but i'm getting there.

Firstly some creepy Ur-Ghuls. The purple to blueish grey was fun to do.

Next is the first of the adventurers, the Navigator. I will have to redo the writing on his parchment front, try and do more dots and dashes rather than lines. Also inverted Pizza Planet at the bottom. :P

WIP and a fun test of light effect glow for the totally not AI, UR-025

After what feels like a long long time...here's some update-things.

Whilst trying to find my missing Black Coach I managed to find some old old Dwarf Thunderers and Marauder Command models as well as some old Vampire Counts models. All horribly painted and duly stripped.

Next up I painted a Spirit Torment. I played a bit with verdigris effect with brass/copper armour and with the ghostly green to physical object transition like with my ghostly horses.

Further on I finally finished the last squad of traitor guard. Painted as Praetorian Guard, tally ho!

Next up I repainted Isabella Von Carstein. I did overdo her face a bit as I couldn't quite get the shade right...

The final model I painted last month was the GW model of the month...which I decided to paint as a Knight Excelsior.

And lastly a picture of everything I painted and built last month.

That is a classy vampire lady!
That she be. :)

Anyway, after a loooong hiatus of a month I come bearing lots more pics...

Negavolt Cultists are done:

Reikenor and his ghost pegasus are built (full assy when part painted)

I painted up the GW model of the month freebie Grey Knight and tried to do a mirrored sword:

And I painted a Marauder Miniatures Dwarf Champion

And with a few days pause for some pretzels and bier...I moved onto the final hurdle...

Khaaaaaaaaaaaan! *Cough* I mean Kharn the Betrayer.
Firstly is a wip before I ruined all the bindings, flesh, and blue glazed metal with gore:

And finally:

Paint came out a bit thicker than I planned in places, despite thinning. Need to work a bit more on that.

*Returns from the tunnels*

Been a busy month-thing. Starting up with my updates are my Spirit Hosts.

I made some cobblestones from plasticard for the hosts' bases.

WOW, I like these very much. A lot of trim work on the stone base, but they look amazing!

Bretonnians after death, fun idea and cheap (if you already had the models lying around) ;)

Grrr, Imrahil

I probably should have gone with the green stuff route, but it was still fun to cut each individual stone out and shape it. I do need to find where the rest of my men at arms went in case I want to make more hosts. I have some Knights of the Realm somewhere that need a repaint that I was using as Black Knights or Blood Knights.
