It's taking a while, but I got some more marine WIPs to show off. I am liking how the jump captain looks (though sadly I didn't take any pics without showing my hands ) Spoiler Here is the captain and the rest of the intercessors:
These look awesome, mate!!! I love the paint job on them in particularly the flight stands The transfers are looking very good! I love the orange one, reminds me of the Dutch lion Keep up the good work Grrr, Imrahil
That is very true! I always thought it was interesting how the Netherlands had a connection to the color Orange. Almost like the USA's connection to red, white, and blue (though we are by no means the only country to lay claim to those colors!). I think its the heraldry fan in me ~~~ My Deathwatch jump-pack captain is now complete! Watch Captain Aracus, 4th Company Captain of Sentinnel IX Deathwatch Fortress Chapter Symbol of the Yellowjackets: Super happy with how she turned out. Armed with a thunder hammer and shield, the hammer arm is magnetized. I need to build another arm with a xenophase/necron blade. Spoiler: moar pics Size comparison with some primaris marines: Base model is a stormcast from the Shadespire box. I have the other two that also will eventually join the ranks of the Imperium, one as a chaplain and the other hopefully as an inquisitor.
The Netherlands have a very interesting, rich and not always pleasant history. I love to read and discover more of it each time. I love what you did with converting the Stormcast. Although his torso seems a little small for his head it works very well. Great paintjob as well. Grrr, Imrahil
Thanks all! I agree the head-body ratio is a little off, but there wasn't a smaller helmet that I could find and I really wanted the awesome-looking mark X helm. I was partly inspired by this artist and there work! Spoiler
Next veteran to add to the deathwatch is Kill Marine Brother Aeschylops of the Clockwork Ravens: When Aeschylops of the Clockwork Ravens presented himself to the watch captain in the midst of a campaign, none had ever seen a marine more physically disfigured, nor more cybernetically modified outside of internment within a dreadnought sarcophagus. Yet the marine immediately proved himself invaluable to the mission on hand, marching implacably towards the enemy positions with automata-like precision, and breaking the xenos with the might of his power maul. This guy was a jumble of parts and a lot of fun to put together. Torso is an extra Deathwatch body, legs are Necron lych guard, head is Admech, and backpack and the rest is a mishmash from my bits box. How would his name be pronounced? My best guess would be eh-SH-kill-LOPS View of his backpack and purity seals: He also comes with retractable plasma/bolt pistols in case I want to run him as a techmarine! Close up of his chapter heraldry. Spoiler: extra photos Close up Pic so you can see his cyborg-necron legs: Scale shots: Now that he is done I have two deathwatch marines that can be armed with power mauls and stormshields for Kill Team games.
Thanks! My next kill team is in the works, starting with Brother Donatus of the Angels of Vengeance: Angels of Vengeance heraldry, made up of the cannibalized remains of an HQ skull and Dark Angels transfer, because the ones that came with the transfer sheet I purchased were way too small: Brother Donatus is the communications specialist for his squad (and probably my future kill teams), and carries an auspex on his belt: Shown here as a dutiful member of the Unforgiven chapers, possibly relaying up to his superiors the appearance of some suspicious-looking space marines in baroque power armor that have appeared on the battlefield...
Got a few long-range hellblasters done! Brother Yuric of the Mortifactors: Spoiler Chapter heraldry: Brother Felman of the Wild Wolves: Spoiler Inspiration for the Wild Wolves comes from the fandom wiki; they are a successor of the Space Wolves of course. I enjoyed adding lots of orc and lizardmen bone bits to the mini to capture the feral feel. Also enjoyed adding skulls to the Mortifactor. Last of the bunch is my new hellblaster Sergeant Bladius of the Flesh Eaters. Spoiler The heraldry for the flesh tearers was a challenge as my transfer options didn't work, but I think my freehand turned out ok!
Thanks! Got a great one coming up next, here is the WIP at roughly 80% complete, pre final highlights for the face/robes and pre heraldry:
Thanks! That's a good question. I get most of the chapters heraldry and history from the following sources: 1) 40K Canon. The vast majority of the chapters are canon from the WH40K universe (or at least as close to canon as some of them can be. Generally this would include chapters on the wiki or lexicanum sites. Chapters in this group include Ultramarines, Salamanders, White Scars, or even chapters with little to no information on them such as the Flesh Eaters or Knights of Gryphonne, or brand-new canon chapters like the Dark Krakens. There are more than enough chapter ideas in this group alone you could easily made every Deathwatch marine unique and never had to repeat yourself if you wanted too. Good place to start would be looking up the lore on the Horus Heresy, figuring out which legion you like the best (good or bad guys) and see what successors or possible successor chapters would be fun to do. 2) "Canon." The "canon" of course being in quotes. A few are technically fan-made, but have since become canon by being featured in GW publications, such as the Yellowjackets. Other chapters such as the Emperor's Shadows would also fit in this category, possibly the Jade Tigers which I intend to include as another captain. The newly minted Tome Keepers may also be in this category? 3) Fanmade. These are all characterful and fantastic chapters that other fans and enthusiast have made. For a quick list of ones I have included in my deathwatch so far: Stars of Dorn Brotherhood of the Midnight Sun Wild Wolves Clockwork Ravens Desert Crows 4) My fanmade. My own DIY chapters, right now the only one I have included in the Deathwatch was my blackshield from the Remnant. I have an idea for a chapter based on Sengoku-era Japan I might include later too.
The black armor is amazing and looks great combined with the bright colors of the shoulder pads. The eyes have a very cool look!
Thanks! I also like how the glowing-ish eyes look. I am not good at painting eyes, so I am happy they look decent this time. My heraldry transfers for the librarian did not work, so the heraldry will be painted on freehand instead.
