Next up is four more Deathwatch marines. Most of the work is done except for some more armor highlights and miscellaneous details.



I get to try out water transfers for the first time later tonight, its a little intimidating . Fortunately there are lots of youtube videos out there!

That's a thing I haven't done in a long time (coming from a 1:72 scale model building background)
Good luck applying it on all the curving surfaces though.

Two hours and six failed attempts later, I finally got the water transfers to work!



It took several applications of gloss varnish below and above the transfers to get them to stick. And I wound up cutting them in half in order to get them to lie on the shoulder pad correctly. You can barely even see the seam!



...although that didn't prevent me from seeing the obvious as day mold line that I missed on his leg

That's a thing I haven't done in a long time (coming from a 1:72 scale model building background)

I also got my suppressors assembled and primed:



They each have some smoky flight stands to carry them into battle. Better looking than the flight sticks they came with in my eyes.

It is insane how large the guns are... considering the amount of ammunition it would take to continuously fire these things they don't have nearly enough ammo space!

Well this next step did NOT go as planned!




I attempted to make my own transfers, but unfortunately the transfer paper I purchased at Hobby Lobby is awful at retaining ink from an inkjet printer, despite it clearly being labelled as such.



The ink pooled in little droplets and refused to dry. Afterwards when I placed my test sheet on top (just regular paper) it soaked up the transfer paper ink and made a mess.

Still it was good for the size test. I threw the rest of the transfer paper out and bought a new set on etsy.

I do not recommend the hobby lobby brand... will let you know how the next batch goes and if it works.

Moving right along I did some major work on my deathwatch anti-air tank:



Not a competitive choice from what I can see, but I love it! Wish I had one in real life. Having fun painting it, including a bit on the interior for no reason other than its fun:

And the fact that you know it is painted. I would do exactly the same, because I couldn't bear knowing it was unpainted

Nice job, the transfers came out well in the end! I'm glad you stuck to it and kept trying, perseverance is great in this hobby!

This guy is based on the space marine chapter I built long time ago, and posted back on the second page of this thread!



Complete with ork skull on his base.

Glad this transfer worked out. As befitting a Tyrannic War veteran, he has a genestealer skull on his base.

Good opportunity to work on different skin tones in the Deathwatch, with another battle-brother to be complete shortly once I finish his chapter insignia.

Next marine up is the kill team squad leader, Sergeant Burchard of the Marines Malevolent





The transfer I used was pretty effective (considering the last printing disaster) and maintained the color, but went on a bit thick. I could not get rid of the lip on the shoulder pad, so I am just ignoring it for now. It shows up pretty well in pictures but is a bit harder to see in real life, and you can't see it from a distance.

I am happy with how the tiny shield on his other shoulder turned out though



He also comes with pointy arm option, as both his arms are magnetized!

Completed the freehand shoulderpad on the next marine for the kill team: Brother Loch of the Dark Krakens:



He may or may not have gotten into some fights with a lizard-like xenos species and taken one of their shields!





I am proud of how the shoulder pad turned out. It took five separate
attempts, two on the model itself, before I was happy with the result.

Originally I was hoping to do a design more inspired by the Game of Thrones house Greyjoy, but that didn't work out so well so I stuck to the more canon design, just swapped the color to yellow because it looked cooler.

Now that Brother Loch is complete, I have enough Deathwatch marines to run a game of Kill Team with them!



Excited to paint the next batch, already started with their basecoats.

Finished my Deathwatch anti-aircraft tank!



I am a big fan of how the stalker-variant looks. Its about 95% complete in the pics because I forgot to finish the lights at the front end of the tank, not like we need those!



The back opens up, as does the roof to swap for the hunter variant.



Due to the allegiance all techmarines in my watch-fortress have to the Adeptus Mechanicus forgeworld of Ryza, I decided to include a bit of there heraldry on the backs of each of the main weapons, as well as paint the helmet of the gunner marine Ryza orange.

The stormbolter gunner is Brother Jerref of the Yellowjackets:
