The Ultimate Middle-Earth SBG Thread

My two main forces are Gondor and Rivendell, but I am trying to start an Isengard army as well.
Besides that some models of this and some of that.

Grrr, Imrahil

Have you seen the medbury miniatures fiefdom range? I carry it in my store, and having painted most of it its quite enjoyable.

Wow these are a really good fit... I almost want to start this army immediately :)
I am going to constrain myself, but this is very useful for when I am to start such a army.

Which of my suggested approaches do you think you'll go for? The Gripping Beast/North Star medley or the Victrix all-in-1 starter?

I would go with the Gripping Beast/North Star medley.
Although I like the mix of armored and unarmored of Victrix I am a not a fan of bigger models than the original.
Also I like to have the option of the Horsemen ;)

I think the Swordsmen and Knights look fine but I dislike the Halberds mostly because of their helmets.

Lucky for you the heads are a separate piece and are interchangeable. I am happy to swap them out for any other head that you may wish.

GW will be re-releasing a lot of forgotten Middle-Earth models in May, and these aren't Made to Order, they'll be back for the next few months/year until they decide to have another range refresh.

Firstly, Erebor and Grim Hammer Captains for the Army of Thror:

And Lake-Town Guard and Militia Captains, also from The Hobbit:

And some of the old Khazad Guard sculpts, who will be joining their existing brethren in a larger pack of 8:

I've got my box of Oathmark Dwarf Heavy Infantry at budget price now so don't need to get these, as nice as they are :D

For the Forces of Evil there are whole host of Moria models returning, including all 4 named characters and the elite Gundabad Blackshields and Moria Prowlers:

I'm most pleased to see these return, I'll have to see if I can order a set of each for my Moria force, plus some of the named characters to lead them 'cos the Warband format still exists.

And @Imrahil and his brother will be most pleased to see this Easterling War Priest coming back, being packed alongside the existing Dragon Knight in a new Mounted Commanders pack:

Yes I do :) :)
This one is good to see back. I thought I had to convert one, but this is way better.

I am not sure what the benefit is of the scout, can you eleborate what their use is?
(These were in the last lot of MESBG that I got)

Grrr, Imrahil

Scouts are far cheaper than standard Uruks so you can get more of them for the points, have good bows that can provide a reliable and regular missile output, have Woodland Creature so can move through forests without issue and still have a better profile than a standard Orc.

Bear in mind that I'm not advocating you replace all your Uruks with Scouts (you could but there's no point given you have loads of Fighting Uruks), I'm just advising you should get some more Scouts to bulk out your small mob of 3, alongside your heavily-armoured and powerful Uruk phalanxes, because 3 Scouts on their own won't be able to accomplish that much.

Thanks for clarifying.
Good points. I might get some more also because the Battle Companies list starts with Scouts only ;)

Other army focus.

The Easterlings have got some new models coming with the release of the Defense of the North book.
One of those are the Black Dragon warriors.

Shown in this and other pictures there are only Warriors with Shield or Pike and Shield, no Archers.

Warriors with bow are allowed to be upgraded to Black Dragons as well, as far as I know.
Will we see these models soon to, or will they need to be converted? or can't Black Dragons carry bows?
