Hello everyone, I'm Josh from Sydney, Australia. A long time lurker, first time poster. Over the last year my Horus Heresy 30k gaming group (the Sydney Mournival Events crew!) has started collecting and gaming with 8th edition armies. As with our Heresy activities, the emphasis is on fully painted thematic armies, nice terrain, non-competitive/narrative events, and overall chill vibes. Many of us (myself included) only played out first games of 8th in 2021! And none of us feel particularly nostalgic for the hyper-competitive 2014 meta. That said, we still play to win, albeit usually with interesting "suboptimal" lists. I've really enjoyed reading all the tactical articles and discussions here on the forum. Now I've played a dozen or so games up to 2400 points, I feel able to constructively add my own thoughts. I'm encouraged by the growth of 8th edition in my area, and will continue to play games and froth over building new lists. I am also active on Instagram, where you can see my models and some battle reports: @shattershell I'll start another thread linking to my battle reports, including my most recent 2400 point game against my mate's beautiful Warriors of Chaos army.
Welcome along! Good to see that your group has fun in the hobby as its main priority! Also, full painted armies are always a good thing Your profile picture looks very good, is that yours? Have good stay and if you have any questions just ask. Grrr, Imrahil
Thanks for the warm welcome Erta and Imrahil! Why thank you, yes the Saurus in my profile picture was one of my first test models for the army. Is there an accepted best practice for integrating photos into posts? I've looked around the forums for a guide without much luck. I'll put up some photos once I figure it out.
That is a nice colorscheme. I like the darker tone to it. On the bottom right of the post(when creating /or editing it) there is a grey box: "Upload a File" if you click it you can select your pictures. They appear in a list below the post form where you can either choose to incorporate them in the text itself or leave them as an attachment to you post. Looking forward to you material Grrr, Imrahil
Well here's a test: my first full unit of 30 Saurus boyes with attached BSB (a magic purple crystal instead of a traditional banner). I love the look of a solid reptilian phalanx
Welcome to the forum! It's always nice to see new 8th players joining, as its a reminder that the gaming system I know and love is still alive. Fantastic! The skin definition and eyes are really just amazing! There hasn't been a new 8th battle report for a little while now. Did you get any pictures? I hope you enjoy your time here!
Ooohw that Crystal is a great idea, It looks stunning as well. I love full painted units in the same colors. What are your plans for basing? Grrr, Imrahil
G'day @shattershell and welcome to Lustria! It's a jungle in here And welcome to the Warhammer Fantasy community too! We've been witness to a steady trickle of incoming new Warhammer Fantasy gamers of late, which, as a Fantasy player who got into the game at the end of 7th, played throughout 8th and continued to play after the horrific destruction of the Warhammer Fantasy world (which I still hold as non-Canon), fills me with joy! Stay tuned for the gradually impending arrival of pretty-much-9th Edition, The Old World (TOW), which will be likely hitting GW stores in 2025 - there is potential for greatness there (providing GW don't balls it up, which they are pretty good at doing to their other games right now )! I am suitably impressed by your mindset here, 8th is more fun when you just focus on building a list that looks thematic and has enough punch to do a fair amount of damage, without trying to break the game I'm encouraged by the growth of 8th edition in my area, and will continue to play games and froth over building new lists. I am also active on Instagram, where you can see my models and some battle reports. Warriors of Chaos are nasty to fight, particularly in 8th, but if your pal has gone with a 'suboptimal' list I'd like to think that'd even the odds a bit. As others have said, by all means create a batrep thread in the appropriate subforum and tell us all about your glorious victories in the names of the Old Ones! As do I, my friend, as do I! A highly impressive Saurus unit you have there, and a great-looking BSB conversion too, simple but no less effective! I presume that's one of the Solar Engine crystals taken from the Bastiladon kit?
Thank you for the compliments on my painting guys! Now I'm in my 30s and have developed a bit of patience and discipline, with this Lizardmen army I'm trying to get a nice cohesive look and finish that I never quite achieved as an easily-distracted teen! All the Saurus blocks are rather time-consuming to paint, but it's worth it in the end. I got plenty of pictures, and have made a quite detailed battle report on my Instagram. It's also on beautiful terrain made by my incredibly hardworking friend. I assume it'd be okay to create a thread in the Battle Reports section with a link to my Instagram posts? Hahahah I must confess basing isn't my strong point. Those Saurus have some texture paint on them, which is how I've been fielding them for my recent games. I plan to add grass tufts, but not sure if I want to protect the models with some matt varnish, and I've heard it's good to add tufts after varnish. Not sure... I agree with you on all points mate. Our events are based around everyone being on the same page, taking a balanced but interesting mix of efficient and purely flavoursome units. This creates games that are still tactically engaging, but with an overall understanding that 8th isn't really "balanced" in any broad sense. We are all fond of the Old World setting and plan on ignoring the End Times. We're also all looking forward to The Old World (game rerelease) and are particularly heartened by the online article in which Andy Hoare says you'll definitely be able to use all your old armies!!! You're correct, I converted my BSB using a Bastiladon crystal. I went out of my comfort zone painting it, but I'm happy with the result.
Welcome to the forum. It's great having another 8th edition player join the fray! I'm sure my good friend @Lizards of Renown will agree! You'll find lots of useful Lizardmen material on the forum, across all disciplines of the hobby. We've also got lots of great threads focusing on non-Lizardmen armies: https://www.lustria-online.com/forums/other-armies-discussion.60/ Nice paint job on your models. Fantastic!
Cheers mate! Time-consuming but rewarding. If anyone is interested I've put a little battle report up in the relevant forum section. One of my first games of 8th, a little 1000 point clash against my friend's crazily well painted Warriors of Chaos army.
A little late to the party, but i welcome you too! your color scheme is great, and i love your attention to details. Plus, we have also some 40k contents in the general wargaming thread, you're more than welcome to join the discussions and share opinions, pictures and HH stuff.
Thank you for the kind welcome mate! I have lots of Heresy stuff, but honestly I'm frothing so hard about Lizards right now I can't promise I'll take the time to post about anything else!
