    Right?

I also think that Kislev then Cathay will be up first, just based on being a new(ish) faction for Kislev and a wholly new faction for Cathay. Basically, all new army and models to sell.

That's sort of what worries me about the game. How many new armies are going to be introduced? If you have too many, the game is going to be bogged down. We obviously want all the old armies back, so how many new ones can be added? At the same time, new armies will likely outsell old ones.

I say start strong... Chaos War Mammoth in plastic!

I’m not waiting for the release AT ALL, but I am curious if they’ll do a good job on the rules. Like we’ve said earlier @NIGHTBRINGER nothing is going to take away the 8th but on the almost ridiculous chance that they make a better version I’ll take a look.

    Nightbringer surprising no-one :)

I suspect, given how much they have talked about it, that they'll start by releasing a set of get-you-by armylists so people can play whatever they already have to start with, and then release things slowly, assuming it ever happens.

That's what I'm expecting, likely there will be one book for Order armies and one for Destruction armies, as GW have done with Loyalists and Traitors in the new Horus Heresy.

It has to happen at some point, GW can't go back on their word now that they've teased Bretonnians and Tomb Kings - if they cancelled it there would be fan-rage like nothing seen since they first executed Warhammer Fantasy in 2015 ;)

And I agree, the likely date for any kind of release will be next year, for the Anniversary date.

Good to see there are more than 5 in the warband, though 9 is an odd number... they could at least have made one more to make a nice round 10 ;). There's also a duplicate pose, which is a shame and not necessary.

Those Terrawings are decent, but I don't see how they'd behave any differently from the existing flying units Lizardmen already have. I suppose they are not ridden and don't drop rocks, but I don't see the point in them because Lizardmen already have Ripperdacyls for the purpose of a melee-oriented flying unit. Perhaps these have some sort of ranged attack that's better than those of Terradon Riders or something?

I'm just trying to work out how these could carve out a niche of their own in a Lizardman army rather than doing something that an existing unit already achieves.

Interesting. Melee Chameleon Skinks? It is nice to see some more new Lizard models. I wish there were a few more ranged Chamos, but I like most of the poses overall. The Chamo with the dangling throat crest looks a little awkward to me. I'm sure adjustments could be made if you really want to use them as Chameleon Skinks.

I actually kind of like the look of the Terrawings, but I agree I don't know how they could be added to the current Seraphon/Lizardmen line? Checking out more of the images on the community page, they do look smaller than actual Terradons. Still, I suppose you could use them as alternate versions, or as Terradon Chief proxies (with a rider on back, of course)?

I noticed one more interesting thing in the community photos. Well, it's what I didn't see. I didn't see any model or terrain which solved that very Seraphon "astrolith-type" rumor engine from a little while back. It could still very much just be terrain... but maybe there's hope for an actual model?

Yes it would be easy to convert the Chameleons with clubs or bolas and shields to be standard Chameleon Skinks, so long as you have some spare Skink blowpipes and arms clutching darts lying around.

That is an interesting point, their bases look about the same size as those of the Chameleon Skinks, suggesting that they are going to be Infantry/War Beast-size rather than Monstrous Beast-size. That begs the question that will Lizardmen get a full-on unit of them at some point in boxes of 10? Now that would be an interesting new unit to have, and gives them a niche as a smaller, Ramphorynchoid pterosaur that mobs enemies in large numbers, as opposed to the larger, Skink-crewed Terradons and Ripperdactyls.

I think it'll be 10 models in the box. At least it's 10 skinks in their battle picture (or well 13 if you count the terrawings):

    upload_2022-10-24_19-11-15.png

Presumably someone screwed up with the pictures for the individual models (or maybe we get doubles of some sculpts, which is pretty normal for a warband anyway).

Honestly, the only way to make the terrawings work is to turn the rippers into actually decent cavalry and have the terrawings be the budget melee flyer option.

The only other alternative I can think of is making them similar to gryph hounds or aetherwings and make them a utility based unit with a neat little special ability.

What I'm more interested in is what they'll do with the chameleons. Will this finally give us an "elite" skink option? And would that mean Saurus might finally be updated to actually have vaguely lore-appropriate stats?

A different picture showing 10 skinks and indeed a couple of reused sculpts.

Using the Chameleon Skink from the Underworlds warband you can make a nice 5 Skinks unit with blowpipes.

Or as I've mentioned above, you can use spare normal Skink blowpipes to convert the rest of them to have blowpipes.

Those Terrawings look like they fit on 32mm bases, as they're only slightly bigger than the 25mm bases the Chameleons are on, so in Warhammer Fantasy they'd likely fit on 25mm squares. Now that would be an interesting unit to design rules for...

I do have a very minor nitpick.

Although I'm excited to see newly sculpted Chameleons, lore-wise I feel like the melee units (and maybe even the bola units) should have been just Skinks. I know that might be boring to most of us, but Chameleon Skinks have traditionally been our stealth snipers. Even by GW stats/rules, Chamos are good ranged, stealth (teleporting) units that are very brittle. Chamos are not commandos.

That said, maybe GW is changing that notion with this WarCry unit? Or, as I think about it, based on the number of models, it's more likely that the Chamos are still weak. This why there's so many of them, plus the Terrawings.

Certainly that was the original Warhammer Fantasy lore. However, I can see how Chameleons could work in close combat, though I would think they should have been sculpted as assassins with obsidian daggers, rather than warriors with shields, clubs and slings.

GW definitely seem to be changing the lore, but this is AoS, GW feel they can have more freedom to play around with the armies now compared to when Fantasy was still around.

Certainly Skinks of any kind are not meant to be cut out as melee fighters, so GW are right to depict the Chameleons as the horde army in this box.
