This is actually something I thought about as well.
I think we can take what they are saing about re-creating the old world with a grain of salt. I might even go as far as calling half of it bullshit .)
I strongly believe they just didn't want to pour as much energy and recources on a game that hasn't been in their active portfolio for a long while, moreso when you take into account how little WHFB contributed into their sales in the past (compared to 40k).
I take it as a half-hearted effort on giving people at least something to chew on, digging up some old models (yeah, I don't buy the enthusiasm around those either) which servers as "give them something new while not really having to break a sweat".
The only thing I grant them is re-creating the rules, which on the other hand can be done in a few people during a coffee break (slight hyperbole ofc).
Now they have thrown out the lure and sit and wait for people to bite.
If it fails, almost no harm done, if it succeeds, voila! And who would have thought, here are Vampires and Skaven and Lizardmen and Demons and shit coming from the holes in the ground, no way!
Maybe. If they are sincere, I would be surprised as I believe it being a publicity stunt, but good for them. And bad for us (I am only half mad, since I have already sold most of my Skaven army, so they only screwed my Lizards, touché! Which ironically is my only army now.)

    That's possible.

The question is, if successful, is it more likely that they release a new army (Kislev, Cathay, etc.) instead of bringing back one of the discarded (pdf rules only) armies?

That's pretty cool. Easily the best of the reveals!

This guy is pretty cool too...

    Yeah, you might be right.

Anyway, pay no mind to my previous post, I am just still fairly jaded. I'd honestly been kinda looking forward to tow.

Well, that was an immensely boring set of reveals - Elves pretty much across the board, a classic GW moment. The only halfway interesting stuff is the Slann statue which will be locked behind a boxset containing Nighthaunt and Lumineth models we don't care about, and the Kroot stuff which is quite fun and a big shift away from Yet More Battlesuits for Tau.

But then, it's the TOW preview tomorrow I'm most looking forward to.

You'll be able to get the terrain off eBay.

    For a price, of course

If they actually released Kislev next, what Opposing Force (OpFor) would they pair with it?

Where are these Saturday previews found, btw? I’m too disconnected. All I got is this thread and the other one you lizards have going.

    I’m thinking Kislev -v- Chaos
    makes the most sense, except:

I have my doubts Kislev gets released any time soon, because it too closely resembles Russia/medieval Muscovy or medieval Kievans/Ukraine. I don’t think GW wants anything to do with real world active conflicts.

The Warhammer Community website is the place to go for news and previews.

I was, but it's Greenskins, which I'm also happy about (in part because of my Greenskin army, in part because it'll probably mean Dwarfs will be along next to fight them)!

Most interesting to see them rereleasing the monopose Arrer Boyz and Boyz with two hand weapons from the 6th Edition boxed game. Sounds like we'll also see other models made unique to boxed games in the past coming back, like the Lothern Sea Guard and Swordmasters.

Also they plan on releasing Night Goblins in time... which sounds like they'll be the classic 5th Edition plastics, as the current ones are in the AoS Range... which renews my hopes that the 6th Edition Beast Herd box will also come back! :woot:

And it appears Ogres have now been pressed into Greenskin service as per 4th Edition.

Isn't today TOW launch day? I thought all rules would be on their page but it isn't.

I'm interested in Lizardmen and Orcs, as I still have a good bunch on 'em, I just wanted to see their rules.

A chap on the EEFL forum has posted a Google Drive link with scanned PDFs of all the Big 9 faction lists and the rulebook, so I can PM you with that and that'll be your Orcs sorted. As for Lizardmen, all we can do is wait until the legacy faction PDFs arrive.

Was looking through the Ravening Hordes pdf I got and it doesn't appear that they're in the Orcs & Gobbos grand army. Maybe one of the armies of infamy lists though.

Also was reading the lore bits of the Rulebook pdf and I'm left with the feeling they either included the references to all the omitted armies in deference to past editions and/or to leave the door open for further expansion. Either way, I'm still somewhat soured on the game.

Nope, though I hope it will be soon.

No they're not in the main army list, so it sounds like they'll be a unit introduced in the Arcane Journal, either as a new unit to be used in any army build or specifically in one of the Armies of Infamy as you say. Most likely the Troll-themed one.

That's honestly what I'm thinking. It would make little sense to do it just to replay previous Editions because everyone would just keep asking 'why aren't we getting these guys then?', and makes a lot more sense to do it to remain open to the possibility of future expansion so long as the game does well financially (and it's promising so far that this is the case, what with GW running out of stock of most of the stuff soon into the pre-order and FLGSs getting lots of orders in for it).

    OUCH. :blackeye:

My store has developed a... new field of competence (Lego) and discarded its collaboration with GW.

This has left me in an uncomfortable position, and i still have to see what the future will bring.

While I have said that I suspect that GW has left to door open to reintroduce legacy factions based on the success of the game, I do not think that it is equally likely for all such factions. I personally think that the one with what I would give a 99.9%* chance is Daemons of Chaos, followed by Dark Elves with a 98% chance, largely due to the roles both play during The Great War Against Chaos. Then comes Skaven and Chaos Dwarfs, at roughly 85-90% chance each, due to how easily they could be added into the narrative. Ogre Kingdoms come next at 75-80% for similar reasons. Vampire Counts are at best a 50% chance, leaving Lizardmen dead last in my estimation at 25-33%. However, aside from Daemons and Dark Elves, I doubt any addition of the other factions will be in the form of a full army of any sort. Perhaps as mercenary factions or limited allied contingents in future expansions, if the game is a long term financial boon for GW.**

*Note, my estimations are optimistic and subject to change as time progresses.

** Further note, I also believe that the addition of potentially profitable new factions, like Cathay and Kislev, will take precedence over any legacy factions.

Not gonna lie, I did not expect much, but I still am slightly disapointed.

I like them adding the Horned One, which is a nice nod towards previous editions, but Carnosaur feels gutted, no impact hit magic item, limiting our monsters feels sage and am I reading right that you need 2 EotGs to proc the magic dificulty discount? Omitting the ward save with engine is also disapointing.
Maybe I am just reading tha wrong and other races have also been kinda nerfed? I like Troglodon being a wizard, that's the only thing, but it shares its spot with Steg and me being a big dino connoisseur just feels bad.

Also - is ColdBlooded nerfed or are there not any Break Tests present? Only Fear, Terror or Panic tests are mentioned under CB rules.
Will probably have to wait for someone more experienced to break down the pros and cons of the new rules (I am sure I have to judge it in tandem with TOW rules, not in isolation).

The Carnosaur I thought wasn't too bad, though it loses an Attack it gets an extra point of Toughness and 2 additional Wounds (when ridden by an Oldblood) - coupled with Cannons no longer being the OP laser-guided missiles of 8th Edition and our ability to cripple enemy shooting with Monsoon, it means it'll be significantly more survivable than it was.

It seems that way... but bear in mind that you don't automatically flee when you fail your Break Test anymore.

I agree that there are some unnecessary nerfs in the list, but the main thing is that yes, the other races have largely been nerfed too. Elves no longer always strike first or re-roll hit rolls against anything with lower Initiative, Chaos Warriors have been significantly watered down and horde armies like Greenskins, Beastmen and Skaven have been given Leadership reductions on non-Champion models in units (meaning killing champions in Challenges is a good way to make them more prone to running away).

I can certainly start writing an analysis article for the Lizardmen TOW list, though I think the biggest thing we need to do is start playing and seeing how the armies work on the battlefield - hopefully it'll turn out to be more balanced than we think.

In any case, there's plenty of things I can address in my Lizardmen Temple-Cities Arcane Journal!
