So I've long toyed with the idea of making a Daemons of Chaos army, I just never liked the Daemon models (apart from the newest lord of change), but with the new Lizardmen models, I've decided to give Daemons a go, but in the guise as lizards (much better ), so now they will be order daemons, but using the rules of chaos daemons. I've long had an idea of how I wanted to paint them, long before seraphon and starborne became a thing, so even though it might look like I drew inspiration from starborne, it is not so (even if it fits nicely). I am however struggling a bit, as I'm just not sure the paint scheme actually works, or wether I'm ruining it by making it too bright, so I'd love to get some feedback on it so far, and without further ado here are some WIP pictures
So with a full day of painting I finished my test-model, bar some touch ups here and there were the paint got off as I held it
Lizard boy here is great, but I can't wrap my head around accessories. All those rings, spine covers and weapon with shield. That creamy colour looks kinda bland. Maybe it is just the photos, but looks like unfinished off white primer. And I just love those blue orbs.
Yeah I might agree, I'm just letting it sit a bit for now, to let it sink in. Still it might be a good idea to give the White some more contrast, to make it pop some more
Looking great!!! i do have to agree with JTSleep personal white and yellow don’t scream Chaos/Deamons to me …. They do look great for starborne…. Not sure what colour but perhaps a red would suit the model better as Chaos!!! the saurus itself bravo its great!!! The accessories in the white and yellow make it look évent more starborne to me and I know you’re trying to stay away from that lol There obviously lots of work on the saurus he looks great ….. the more I look at it the more I see 30K world eaters there white and blue but very dirty down and bloody etc ….. perhaps a if you dirty down the white and yellow it would look more chaos deamon….. but wait rereading above deamons aren’t necessarily dirty down etc….. maybe changing the bling parts (ring and horns etc) to either a gold or silver would make it pop without making it look to bland since they do like using metals etc and perhaps turning the yellow a little darker or toward the orange (it does look good already idk maybe with the metal it would be fine) I do feel the eyes need to pop a bit more purple maybe? cheers
First off thanks for the feedback It does not have to scream chaos, I'm not aiming; I'm just leaning towards something that looks magical and could be daemon-esque but not chaos daemon per say - it would be more "Order daemon" if anything (so like starborne I guess, if you really get down to it). In terms of red: I am planning to use red, just not here I think. I have an idea for a scheme for a character with red, but it will be quite limited to that I think. I might try darkening the yellow, or perhaps turning up the contrast, so there are darker parts leaning more towards orange I'm also not much for painting a dirty effect and rarely do gold or silver - yeah that is just me being weird and difficult I guess I'll try with some more contrast on the whites/greys first and decide from there
Sounds like you got exactly what your after perhaps just a touch more toward the orange spectrum on the shield especially and bingo !! cheers
I love the idea and the color combination is stunning. The yellow and blue match amazingly. The dark scales accentuate the light 'metal' parts very nicely! Keep up the great work Grrr, !mrahil
So in the pursuit of making my "Daemons" army, I need to figure out which unit is going to represent which, so I've made some charts as to what I felt made the most sense (keep in mind that I will not be using the old models such as Cold One Riders, Razordons). I would love some feedback on this, to gauge whether my choices makes sense to you and if I have missed some obvious substitution.
I've been hard at work on my "Daemons", not that it's been going fast though but I do have some pics, that are still somewhat WIP, as I haven't decided what to do with basing. I do know however that they won't stay on the round bases, that's just for some ease of painting. First up my Saurus Warriors/ Bloodletters:
Furthermore some Kroxigor which I might use as beasts of nurgle or maybe the slaanesh fiends, along with a Skink Priest, which I'm thinking will be a herald of Tzeentch:
I got around to basing the "Daemons" and took some pictures with a white background, which seems to give a better result. As promised to the Second Spawning, the Master of Polls, the mighty @NIGHTBRINGER here are pictures of the new Saurus on square 50x50 mm bases:
Oh mehn, these looks soooo good!! the colors work so great together. Really awesome! A full army pic would look amazing Grrr, !mrahil
