Hail, spawnlings. This one welcomes you to the Maw of Sotek hobby blog. Here, I will be posting and indexing the various projects that I'll be (or I have been) working on. My goal in having created this is to maintain hobby discipline, have accountability, and receive feedback for the things that I make.

While I have been playing Seraphon since early 2nd Edition of Age of Sigmar, I admit that a lot of it has been smashing around with grey plastic. With some time on my hands, I've made it my objective to paint them all up into something I can be proud of. It's a long road ahead of me, but I look forward to it.
    STILL IN THE BOX:
    • 20x Saurus Warriors
    • Skink Starseer
    • Aggradon Lancers
    STILL UNPAINTED:
    • 1x Lord Kroak
    • 1x Slann Starmaster
    • 5x Raptadon Chargers
    • 5x Raptadon Hunters
    • 3x Kroxigor Warspawn
    • 2x Stegadons w/ Skystreak Bows
    • 1x Stegadon w/ Engine of the Gods
    • 2x Bastiladons w/ Ark of Sotek
    • 1x Bastiladon w/ Solar Engine
    • 1x Skink Oracle on Trogolodon
    • 1x Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur
    • 2x Skink Starpriest
    • 6x Terradon Riders
    • 5x Saurus Guard
    • 60x Skinks
    • 2x Saurus Oldblood on Foot
    • 1x Tehenhauin
    • 2x Kitbashed Skink Chiefs
    • 1x Kitbashed Skink Priest
    • 1x Kitbashed Skink Chief on Troglodon
    • 1x Realmshaper Engine

The FLGS I work at had an old Citadel Realm of Battle tileset in storage and my boss was kind enough to let me borrow and restore it. I will be detailing my progress as I try and turn this old peeling paint into something we can really play on.

A project that is near and dear to my heart and something I'm very excited about. I have a pie-in-the-sky dream of designing a compelling campaign system that can be used in conjunction with Age of Sigmar to create a living narrative for players to inhabit. I plan on accomplishing this goal by drawing from a number of different tabletop gaming supplements, but one in particular that I have fond memories of...

"I'm beginning the army with my skinks as they'll be easy to pain in batches and - more importantly - I want to get them out of the way because there's a bunch of them. After doing some research on the battletomes throughout the ages of AoS and WHFB, I landed on a colour scheme. The 6th Edition Lizardmen battletome describes blessed spawnings of Sotek as being infused with a reddish color, and I want that to inform my decisions.

I decided to settle on an orange base and plan for red markings and warpaint. Citadel's Gryph-hound Orange with a quick drybrush of Lugganath Orange got me a quick and dirty start. Speaking of; I used dirt I bought from Lowe's with Mod Podge to start the basing, but I wanted to really lean in to some jungle themes for these lads, so I busted out the Barbed Bracken.

... And as a bonus; dug out this little treasure.

I tried red on the orange base coat, but wanted to see more contrast on the model. I settled on Kabalite Green for the markings. Afterwards, I went buck wild with tufts and bracken and did some quick vibrant colors 20241010_065830.jpg :

With the test model complete, I'm on to chugging away at the 59 remaining skinks. Wish me luck!

I like how you've made first post in thread a nice list that anyone can come back to later. Wish you great progress and plenty of colorful lizards.

Oof, I feel that. There is something about getting a big number of models and thinking 'yup, this'll be awesome' and then the actual number hits you and you realise 'yup, this can be a hazard of burning out if I'm not careful'

Fortunately, like you say, skinks are an easy lot to do in bulk.

Hey there, love the orange basecoat on those skinks! Might steal that idea for my own lizards, though Im a bit nervous about painting so many at once.

Wow, first off I'm really impressed with the attention to detail on stuff like the headers and images for the thread here. Definitely very inspiring, I can't wait to see your finished minis!

I'm also *particularly* interested in your plans for the Mortal Realms project. I've never been a fan of Path to Glory and I'd love for an AoS style campaign like what you described. I'll definitely be watching your work here!
