    As a slight tangent...

@Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl (and anyone else interested), rank the 4 greater daemons and the verminlord, from best to worst, based on their respective models (discounting lore, art, rules... just the models).

Certainly Tomb Kings are higher up the order of preference, in part for that reason. Not only that, but as a pretty much neutral force they could ally with either my alliance of 3 Good armies or my alliance of 3 Evil ones for thematic scenarios, depending on the preferences of the Tomb King in question.

Without a doubt this will be what I'm doing for the foreseeable future, and the prospect of starting a Tomb King legion when all my other six armies are done is a good motivator to carry on with them. My Dwarfs are near completion and my Greenskins are getting there, so it's very much an achievable goal.

    Easy enough one for me:
    1. Verminlord: I love my Skaven, and he's the biggest Skaven model to be found. And he has 5 different variations!
    2. Lord of Change: Some Tzeentch models like the Horrors aren't my thing, but others like the Lord of Change are. I don't think anyone can dislike the Big Bird of the Warhammer franchise.
    3. Bloodthirster: An OK model, very obviously one of Khorne's archetypal Daemons, just not as cool as the Verminlord or Lord of Change for me.
    4. Keeper of Secrets: As mentioned above, I preferred the old metal one of these, specifically with the antelope-like head option. The faces that come with the new one are pretty weird-looking, neither openly beautiful or Daemonically ugly, and I'm not fond of the nose-ring, it's bad enough seeing them on living human beings. But, the model isn't openly disgusting either...
    5. Great Unclean One: Archetypally Nurgle in all its revolting 'charm'. Not for me in the least.

Are we just counting current versions or classic and forgeworld versions for Greater Daemons? :p

I know we haven't had very many votes, but it's crazy that both Khorne and Nurgle are scoreless. I would have picked them to be in second and third place.

Most interesting you've put the plastic Keeper of Secrets at the top... I remember back when it first came out you remarked that it was inferior to the Forge World one, and I personally agree with that earlier comment of yours. I take it the plastic one has grown on you?

Your memory is superb; absolutely sharp! I do remember stating exactly that, but as you said the new one has grown on me. Since my initial comments I've seen many more painted examples of it and especially the all female conversion that I posted earlier on this thread. I do prefer the fact that the Forge World one is all-female right out of the box, but the pose is a lot better on the GW one (not to mention that GW plastic > Forge World resin).

My top 4 choices are all extremely close to one another; especially the top 2. I went back and forth between one and two. Personally I don't like painting feathers though, which hurts the Lord of Change. That said, if someone painted both models for me (equally well), an argument can be made to put the Lord of Change in the top spot. However, if the Keeper of Secrets is converted as posted previously, it wins outright. Ultimately I tried to imagine what I would do if I won a greater daemon of my choosing, and in my heart I'd take the Keeper of Secrets over the Lord of Change. Both are stunning though.

After #4, there is a huge drop off for me and then again going from ninth to tenth.

That's a very practical consideration; granting you a lot more playability!

Keep plugging away at it, and don't forget to post pictures in your paint blog as you do!

@Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl what is your opinion on the 4 Greater Daemons in terms of the current GW range versus the Forge World range? Sculpt only; ignoring for the moment the superiority of plastic over resin.

Oh yes... I have thoughts, just haven't got round to voicing them yet :D.

Better yet, I will rank the older GW models alongside the newer ones, as you have:
    1. Verminlord [GW, current edition, plastic] + Vikkik Scour, Prophet of the Horned Rat [New GW plastic Verminlord character]
    2. Lord of Change [GW, current edition, plastic]
    3. Bloodthirster [GW, current edition, plastic]
    4. Lord of Change [Forge World]
    5. Bloodthirster [Forge World]
    6. Keeper of Secrets [GW, previous edition, metal, antelope-like head variant specifically]
    7. Verminlord [GW, previous edition, metal]
    8. Keeper of Secrets [Forge World]
    9. Lord of Change [GW, previous edition, metal]
    10. Keeper of Secrets [GW, current edition, plastic]
    11. Bloodthirster [GW, previous edition, metal]
    12. Great Unclean One [Forge World]
    13. Great Unclean One [GW, previous edition, metal]
    14. Great Unclean One [GW, current edition, plastic]

We both know that I like to crunch some numbers from time to time. Here is the answer to the question I posed (the lower the number the better the rank)...

    upload_2024-10-30_20-36-39.png

Turns out that across the four Greater Daemons, you like the new GW plastic and the Forge World models the same, while I ever so slightly favour the new GW plastics. We both agree that the previous edition metals are the worst of the group.
