the final result for us, yes. But would Blockbuster survive such a huge trauma? blockbuster WAS a physical network, which was going to end abruptly, and it's still uncertain that the transition from a physical empire to a digital empire could be handled without collapsing in the meantime and being forced to bankrupt anyway.
Remember when Netflix mailed DVDs to your house, and then had you mail it back. Imagine if you could get DVDs mailed to your house and then just drop them off at your local Blockbuster. This would save postage on mailing because the Blockbuster could bundle up 50 DVDs at a time. Also, you could your next DVD faster because you don't have to wait for your first DVD to go through the mail and then get processed by Netflix. There would be a record of returning the DVD immediately from the Blockbuster store. That'd be cool. The Blockbuster/Netfllix hybrid would have a lot of cash early on, so they could implement streaming options faster. I think an alternate history scenario where Blockbuster bought Netflix would ultimately be good for the consumer. I like having physical media. Blockbuster used to stock up on extra DVDs of new releases and then sell the pre-viewed DVDs on the cheap once a new release was no longer new. My dad and I would buy four or five DVDs twice a month whenever Blockbuster updated their "Pre-viewed" stock. That was how I used Blockbuster in the old days. Good times...
