Doom divers can be a pretty mean war machine!and doom divers!

It's definitely a possibility, but it does have one major downside. We don't play very often, and I too want to play with my toys. Fielding Wood Elves does not bring me the same joy as when I put my beloved Chaos Dwarfs or Warriors of Chaos on the board. You know how it is, we all develop an affinity to our armies. I want to lead the followers of Hashut to victory, not some pointy eared forest hippies!![]()
One of my friends has a gun line for his greenskins. Maximum artillery and a ton of goblins with bows. Add to this some chariots and the most Shaman he can after a BSB and general. I've stolen the artillery part esp against high armour armies, I use the squids, savage big uns and chariots instead of a giant as he does. Eventually I would love one of the FW giant squig launcher models. It just looks cool.Doom divers can be a pretty mean war machine!
How does your gunline army fare? Which armies can you bully and which ones give you trouble? One of my friends has a gun line for his greenskins. Maximum artillery and a ton of goblins with bows. It's balanced enough that it can handle most armies. I might have to hang back more than my greenskin heart wants but that artillery is there to tenderize. Bretons are actually an easy fight, other than Grail Knights as they will literally smash any unit I have. Armies that use a lot of chaff can hurt me if they can slow my troops down and keep me from shooting. Chaos Dwarfs are very tough to beat if they move up as their artillery can be much better and they can devastate units with their firepower, also they have high leadership and are tough so they can keep up with my units damage output. Empire can be very tough to beat. Between magic, artillery, demigryph, inner circle knights and the steam tank they are a good counter. My personal empire list for tournies has two demigryph units, a cannon and a tank, 10 man inner circle with a lvl 4 life Mage, BSB and usually a priest. Depending on points I also have captain on pegasus. That handles the gunline rather easily. Wood elves can be either really easy or hard depending on how much terrain blocks my shooting. Ogres built right are also tough. How does your gunline army fare? Which armies can you bully and which ones give you trouble?
What about Dwarfs? They can definitely outrange you and have great survivability and leadership. It's balanced enough that it can handle most armies. Ogres are one of the best armies in the game. They would belong in the top tier if it wasn't for their susceptibility to Purple Sun and other similar spells.Ogres built right are also tough.
the Hobgoblin Khan parked in front of it, was charged, fled, was caught, but put the charging Trolls through the Scree Slope terrain piece, which caused a few more dangerous terrain wounds. More importantly, the Trollstar was angled off harmlessly and had to waste time in future turns repositioning.
Hobgoblin Khans - those two redirections (Trolls and Skullcrushers) were game changing. Buying time and setting up multi-unit counter charges. Unsung heroes!

Dwarves tend to be a tough. Nut to crack between armour, toughness, high leadership, firepower, anti magic... They do tend to be able to be crushed if I can get my units into contact with them. I tend to have enough units that unless animosity, stupidity or bad unit placement happens I can send a few Pump wagons in to tie them up for a round and also my wolf riders, to slow them shooting more important stuff. Squids, savage orc big uns and just big units of orcs or goblins tend to do a lot. I love gyrocoptors but not when playing against them! One of the few units that can pull my Fanatics out early and march block me. We have the tools and while I hate to waste magic, sometimes you just have to throw 6 dice at foot of gork and pray for ultimate power and hope the miscast doesn't kill you. Poison banner is also very helpful as the More they have to roll armour saves the more they will fail. What about Dwarfs? They can definitely outrange you and have great survivability and leadership.

Absolutely. One of the very best in the game. Reliable shooting in a fairly fighty package.Ogres... they are rough. Those cannons are what I hate.
You know, ironically I don't have any O&G war machines, other than chariots? I usually run a Nomadic Waagh, with about 40 boar boys and 30-odd wolf riders. That's not to say I don't have infantry in the form of blocks of orcs and goblins, but my army is very cavalry heavy. Also trolls and doom divers! I love using pump wagons with the no armor save upgrade and make sure they hit the hardest armored unit. The banner of poison with gobbo archers and squigs also do a number on your opponents. I'm actually painting a wyvern warboss right now, I'm supposed to be working on other armies but he was calling to me.
I have a bunch, not 40, boar riders. They are either all stars or horrible. I own a lot of wolf riders and spider riders and several wolf and boar chariots. I love mobility so until 8th came around I didn't have giant units of troops. I like the idea of nomadic waagh, so many swirling units of speedy greenskins. 8th made me add...a lot of infantry. You know, ironically I don't have any O&G war machines, other than chariots? Coming from 7th edition, infantry very much deserved a boost!8th made me add...a lot of infantry.
Absolutely! I got tired of so much cavalry being the focus of the game. Mind you I loathed the demigryph style that showed up in 8th. I just would love to see tons of infantry but not just hordes. I do play Dogs of War and Greenskins so I may be biased.Coming from 7th edition, infantry very much deserved a boost!
Orc infantry is loads of fun too. One of my remaining Dogs of War units is in that army - Ruglud's Armored Orcs (the ones with crossbows).I have a bunch, not 40, boar riders.
