AoS 1000 pts pairs with BCR, new GHB

I'm going to participate in a pairs tournament in mid July. Don't have full rules yet, but want to start preparations beforehand.

Here's what I think:

Slann

The plan is to clear chaff with rippers turn 1, opening charge for mammoths on turn 2. I still didn't get my Drakespawn for convertion and don't have any razordons, unfortunately.

I also think about bringing slann, lots of skinks and some support just to score objectives, while both opponents dealing with stonehorns.

List seems ok, Also i think razordon are pretty useless in this format, as artillery, they'll pop end turn 2 , so it's 2 Shooting phase without them + potential weird deployment so no shot turn 3 either .

I doubt there will be meeting engagements rules. It will be 2k total - 1000+1000.

Since your partner is an army that is a monster in melee I think that everything that either shoots, does magic, or stands in the way of enemies is worth it.

I think I would go for a Shadowstrike and try to annihilate everything that would otherwise pose a significant threat to the big BCR guys. Then sit on top of objectives with Skinks.

Beastclaw and Seraphon player here, I'd recommend icefall yhetees over the mournfang. They are also fast, are -1 to be hit, can pile in 6 inches and are cheaper. you can stop your movement 3,5 inches from an enemy unit, then pile in and attack before your enemy can (because yhetees are allowes 6inches pile-in in 6 inches). So regardless of how many yhetee units you let attack in this way, you always strike first.

I like Shadowstrike list more too. This way we shall have a lot of pressure turn 1. 20 skinks and 4 mournfangs should be enough to defend ourselves against most threats turn 1 and turn. On our turn will destroy supporting characters or take over objectives, depending on opponents' behaviour. There are some armies like nagash, that can easily get rid of mammoths even turn 1, but we have to live with that, I guess. While mammoths and rippers get all the attention for 2-3 turns, slann pops lots of skinks to grab objectives and throws spells, if needed. That's the plan.

My ally has only 2 large beasts and 4 mournfangs, unfortunately. But he will be magnetizing them, so we can have any variations. I like 2x Huascard the most, because there are two characters, that can command themselves. I'd go for double stonehorn, if I had razordons and could clean chaff turn 1.

The Skink Priest with feathercloak is the battalion Skink. Sadly this list would be 4 drops, but should still result in a pretty low drop army, specially with BCR as your partner.

It is also worth considering a Shadowstrike list that is less damage tuned, but has room for a Slann. This would give your team an insurance plan for the late game. You would have to forgo the Razordons, but it would lower your drops considerably.

Unfortunately, I still don't have any razordons, so I'll have to go for the second list. I hope, the pressure from shadowstrike and 26" threat range from Thundertusks will allow us decent board control.

So we did 5 out 8. We certainly could do better, cause double thundertusk is very powerful.

First game was Knife to the heart against shooty skaven+LoN. I was too eager to play aggressively, and that costed us minor loss. BCR charged foward, killed 3 jezzails and some grimghasts and were shred to pieces. Rippers couldn't kill even 20 skryre acolytes because of poor placement, and all just went bad. Grimrhasts were near slann, which guarder our objective by turn 2, but thanks to Stellar tempest and hysh spell, I managed to destroy the stack, but opponents still killed way more.

All we had to do is to sit on our objectives destroying grimghasts again and again with mortal wounds, while rippers could strike anywhere to hurt as much as possible. I would be unlikely a major victory, but we had all chances for minor. And I didn't expect that 30 grimghasts would be enough to completely protect their whole army. I should've though.

Secon game against Nagash and 10 wolves and VLoZD and 20 chainrasps, total conquest. Not only did I made some mistakes, but opponents' dice were crazy. They failed every single attempt to cast Cogs, but other than that... Both Nagash and Dragon cast Pinions on 9+ turn 1 and maganed to tie Thundertusk general. We snowballed nagash for two turns and left with 1 wound. On his turn he was back to 9 wounds thanks to casting Transference and Soulstealer on 9+... VLoZD made like 3 11+ charges through the game and casted Pinions on 9+ twice... Well, other than that, I should've just summoned more skinks and ripperdactyls instead of bastiladon, which did literally nothing. As a result 11-16, major loss. But at least Thundertusk survived Hand of Dust. It was awesome!

Final game against mirror, Places of Arcane Power. Lists were almost identical, but other Seraphon had Salamander and Lord on Stonehorn and Thundertusk Beastraiders instead of double Thundertusks. Opponent had first turn, wiped skinks screen with shooting and killed non-general Huskard, but that was it. Rippers charged other skinks and mournfangs and died on our turn. I blocked stonehorn with skinks, while rippers killed enemy Thundertusk. We have finished off Stonehorn on turn 3, and opponent conceded, because we held 2 out of 3 points, and he only had Slann, skinks and salamanders. Major victory!

If not for my stupid mistakes, we could easily be top 3. There were only a single pair, that was better just on the list level (FEC+Khorne), and they were experienced players. One of the guys we played in game 1 was ETC-player, but I found his list not too flexible. He was just having fun probably. His team took 4th place. And if only Thundertusk wasn't tied in game 2, we could kill VLoZD turn 1 and made it just by objecives.

I really wish I could have more practice...
