Made another list for possible use next week, could be a slight bad choice because shooting armies but anyway.

Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur

Skink Priest (priestly trappings)

Saurus Sunblood

Saurus Warriors (10)
Saurus Warriors (10)
Saurus Warriors (10)

Saurus Knights (5)

Sunclaw Starhost

Still need to assign the ability for the Saurus Oldblood and the artefacts, don't know what to have.
Went with a Skink Priest in hopes to get the rerolls, how I want to get in fast to avoid being pelted with ranged attacks
Now what does everyone think? Shame I can't squeeze in that Dread. Well if I make a new list with the Carno and Dread with some smaller things then maybe, but it's not enough really.

I am not sure the minimum Sunclaw is a good idea.
Saurus Warriors miss out on their best stuff if they are less than 30 models in a unit.
For me the minimum playable size is 40+10+10 Saurus Warriors.

So if that doesn't fit you are probably better off without the bataillon and just using the points on something else.

That it's true, doesn't use the full potential of the Saurus.
Hard to write a 1000 list, especially when it's the likes of Stormcast/Dwarves I am facing.
Could remove the Carno so I can add more Saurus, same with the Knights. But taking down the possible airship and ballista though.
Can't remember how many Cold Ones I have but not many ready for battle.
It's mostly a mix of speed and power I need.
Unless I go Skaven and swarm them as I have plenty Clanrats.

Want to mostly bring painted stuff so the table looks good at least. Can bring some unpainted/primed stuff also.
Unless I run some Cold Ones with the Scar vet on cold one, saurus, Trog.
Might end up being one big mash of stuff, trying to get those summons in with the Slann within a 2 hour game. We do try to keep things at a decent pace but still learners of the game, especially with new edition.

I agree on the 40, 10, 10 being the minimum spread for Saurus Warriors in a Sunclaw Starhost. Do you equip the 40 model block with spears or with clubs. I know clubs are much more damage at smaller units, but it seems like at 40 you might ultimately get more out of spears.

If I can find my notebook, I think I have about in the 30 range of Saurus with spears, I am getting a separate unit built at the moment for clubs. Get more attacks in with spears due to the range. Which is useful as the terrain I was playing on had a lot of rocks, nearly everything had to conga line in-between them. Mostly the Saurus Knights, there was an open space but my Saurian and Skinks were hanging out there. Wasn't much use hiding the Skinks because he had flying units that would sit on top of the rocks.

Ultimately spears and clubs appear to have very similar results when in units larger than 10. I have read post that talk about honeycomb formations to get clubs with in 1" while being in two ranks. The honeycomb strategy seems like your enemy would have to deliberately play into it or also be on 32mm bases in order to be appropriately spaced. It also does not feel worth the argument every single match you play about rather you are 1.1 inches or 8.9 inches away on a model by model basis. Nearly all my warriors ended up with spears. I built two ten man squads of Saurus Warriors in case for some as of yet unknown reason I prefer them to hold objectives instead of Skinks. lol

( I am SOOOO not a mathematician, I am just going off of memory of a post that's up on here somewhere lol) additionally, if you are using the sunclaw, the clubs are better anyway, as you are gonna want to maximize the number of units within 1" (honeycomb or otherwise) to get the most out of the extra bite.

Having 10 hits with a 50% chance to wound should wound more than even 7 with a 66.64% chance to wound. Meaning you only need roughly 1/3rd more attacks in range. Assuming you are able to fight in full double ranks I think spears work out better. As the unit size goes up so should the benefit of greater reach. Obviously unit size decay will have an affect. As the model count dwindles clubs become increasing better. Maybe I am missing something though.

right... and 15 is aprox 1/3 more at full unit size no? just used a calculator and its 13.3 so 14... which is pretty good for my off the top of my head of 15 lmao.

Correct. I was just clarifying that spears continue to be more effective even down to smaller units. So long as you gain only 1/3 more attacks out of a double rank. 15 more attacks would assume you can only get 15 more in as a result of spears vs clubs. In any unit size over 20 you should be able to get roughly double the number of attacks with spears than with clubs. Meaning your unit has to have taken casualties or be positioned in such a manner as to only allow below 1/3rd of a double rank with spears to attack for clubs to become better.

Well it is discussing what is better to take in a list

For me, it feels like depending on the scenarios really. Spears and Clubs are quite even weapons.

Do have my plans on taking a Sunclaw in the future, can't remember the plan that was used. It was from the Core book one where we just gathered points for doing damage to each other. If doing the same plan next time I will have to have a more offensive list to quickly get in there. Most of the points I was able to get with the Dread Saurian last game. I doubt I would be able to bring the Saurian now because the guy got all funny about it when it obliterated one of his units in one swoop
So some listing on some of the offensive units hmmm. Rippers, Saurus, Carnos etc.
