Figured I'd just share some Total War love since you guys are more hyped for Blood Bowls
Total War is all about huge battles and if you're in the "why not on consoles!?" camp let me both tell and show you why:
If you're playing with the largest unit setting enabled the armies can come up to 3000-3500 soldiers each side. Easily. Then you can add in reinforcement either because you have another army standing next to the one being attacked or because an allied is right next to you, but wait! Your opponent can do the same and boom you very easily have 10k soldiers fighting it out. I've had 3 full stacks right next to each other, but commonly it just results in me rolfstomping my opponent with massed stacks of soldiers and thus me just auto-resolving.
So let me show you pictures of two different battles, but with same army:
The first one is my Roman Heavy Cavalry riding on the flank. I was up against an army with zero cavalry so I had a clear advantage. He was also low on ranged unit (we both had 2 units of archers). You can see my army to the left (yellow line followed by a red line) and my opponents army on the left side - all red. If you want to see the actual battle you can see it here:
http://www.twitch.tv/steffend89/v/7088869 it's right from the start of the battle.
In another battle you can see me battling it out in close combat. Can't remember if I won haha.
City battles can be absolutely insane in terms of scale. There are several hige cities like Rome where the attention to detail phenomenal. In the Atilla expansion to Rome 2 (which is where the pictures are from) you can burn down building to reduce your opponents morale, you know in the actual battle. If it's raining and building are burning and you have 3-5000 soldiers on each side your computer will likely struggle, but it's all for the greater good.
I cannot wait to see it all happen with the old world even if lizardmen are not there on launch and perhaps won't ever be made. It'll still be glorious.
If you guys want to see it actually in action you can follow me on Twitch: SteffenD89. I've had some great battles so far in my current campaign, trying to pull up the Western Roman Empire from the mud ^^
