8th Ed. 8th edition skimishing question

The picture in the 8th edition rule book shows that skirmishers are still in a "box" formation just placed about a 1/2 inch apart.

So do they actually have to be in that formation? Or can they be more loose in their shape...

just wondering if I now need to make skirmishing movement trays lol

Skirmishers can reform within thier movement range into whatever formation they choose. They have to maintain the 1/2 inch formation though.

Yeah you can't just randomly drop them any way now, they need to have ranks and files even if they are spread out still.
