Ummmm... well I realy don't write down wht I use, But I can sum it up. I started with a coat of grey primer, then I did a thin brown wash over the rocks, then I brushed on the dark green seaweed and scum layer around the bottom, I used a couple of brogressively brighter greens for depth. thn i wnt back and started to highlight the rocks with some thin layers of greyish ligh brown. I usualy feather the edges with a big clean brush. then finaly I did some edge highlight with some very light grey. then I wnt back I pained the the shipwreck. mostly with a bunch of washes and a base coat of medium brown. then did a bit of a thalka green wash between the rocks near the base. the water is a base coat of medium blue (think ultra marines) then a highlight of a lighter blue and white crest and finaly a wash of azurlan blue.... Whew.... So there ya go.
Hello guys !! How are you ? Today in France we don't like who/what is "All Blacks" look ahaha By the way here is some pics of my black kraken and the wrath of Grimnir (more pics on my blog !!) I hope it will please you !! Morikun
Release the robo-kraken!!! Very nice stuff. I'll be picking up a copy of dreadfleet around christmas time myself. Looking forward to painting up the lovely models.
They look great, nice work! The water looks very choppy, much rougher than the way most people paint it, I like the way you have done it. I can't quite see... Did you use silver on the Dwarf auxillery airship? I think GW used white for the top of theirs, I'm not sure how I want to paint mine yet. I thought silver, but almost the rest of the model is silver. I have slowed down a bit with mine, I moved on to undercoating the ghost ship leaving the Dwarf ship a third finished because I got sick of painting metallic. Then I've been sick and exhausted.. I'll try to get more finished in the next few days. I guess I'm still ahead of schedule if my original aim was a ship per month, I haven't painted an auxillery or island yet though.
I would like to seek the opinion of all the other captains of the sea. Regarding the High Elf ship, should I paint it as the White Dwarf suggests and as GW did, or should I paint it in the theme of my High Elf WHFB army? For those that don't know, my army is Spartan themed with deep red and gold as the main colours and Lamba as the army symbol like this model. Opinions?
I think you should paint it using GW colors since the game is separate from warhammer fantasy. But that's how I look at it.
As far as I'm concerned, I will paint my HE ship like my cult of slaanesh dark elf sorceress : with leviathan purple lavis !! The design is a good opportunity... so if I can give you my advice my dear Strewart : paint it in the scheme you like !! Morikun ^^
The Shadewraith is now complete! So.. What to paint next? I have the Dwarf ship tarted on my painting table, I guess I probably should finish it... But after that, no idea what I want to tackle. Perhaps the Heldenhammer or the Bloody Reaver so I can try the first scenario? They are both difficult ships that I would want to put a lot of effort into though.
That's a really cool looking ship you have there Strewart!!! As for what to paint next, I would definitly finish the dwarven ship before tackling anything else. As far as I'm concerned, started but unfinished models have a tendency to pick up dust on the workspace and I'd much rather finish them!!! This thread is really cool to follow, all of you guys are making very good progress and it does look like the Dreadfleet kit is very fun to play with as far as painting is concerned!
Thanks SeBM! The Shadewraith was good fun! You are correct about the problem of never finishing models, even worse for the Dwarf ship since it is still in 3 pieces, however, it is too late for him. A few hours ago I began work in the Heldenhammer. I have completed its decks and started the hull so far. I am still saying the Dwarf ship will be after this one, but who knows.
In the end, if you like the Heldenhammer better, it's just normal you feel like painting him instead of the dwarven ship . And since you play High Elves, I can't imagine how insulting it must be to paint those stinky smallish dawrven ships .
Looks cool. I think it would really benefit from mixing in some matt medium to your wash. It stops it from pooling too bad. It really works as a ghost ship though, really cool. I would do the robo kraken personally, can't get enough of that model.
Yeah some of the splotchiness on the sails doesn't look great... It is actually deliberate to try to make some parts of the ship glow more than others. And my wash was definitely going to pool since I mixed it 50/50 with a grey ink to do it all in one step.
What a very beautiful Shadewraith my dear strewart !! I really like it !! I'm painting mine nowadays and it's nearly finished. I'm painting too the rotten skaven ship... pics very soon !! Morikun
