Hello below Lustrians!

Long story short it’s been a very long time since I’ve done any Warhammer related activities and recently I’ve reclaimed a few hours of my life on a Monday. I was wasting some time playing Jurassic World Evolution and thought “I have so many unpainted dinosaurs, maybe I should work on AoS”. Turns out my Seraphon are under a lot of things so I’ve shifted focus to some more easily accessible boxes of Aelves.

I’ve written up some background on them a long time back (link in my sig), but since then a lot has happened. Idoneth Deepkin, Daughters of Khaine and Lumineth Realm Lords didn’t exist when I started this project, and now as I understand it the “Generic” elves are now part of Cities of Sigmar.

Now I know a bit about the Idoneth and Daughters (Lumineth is still brand new to me) and it leaves me wondering where the rest of Aelfkind fit in to the lore. If Idoneth were the first attempt to bring back the elven race(s) then what are the Wanders, Highborn and Exiles? Is there any background on them at all or was Cities of Sigmar more of an excuse to consolidate a bunch of factions?

To my knowledge they were the few Elves to make it out of the World that was... think it goes over it in the Cities of Sigmar battletome... I think...

If there is it is long-winded and bloviated. Not worth my time to read. IMHO, not worth your time either.

Yes. Yes it was.

Furthermore, it is a attempt to get sales moving of the kits and models the book includes.

Within that Realm where the Sities of Cigmar lie, there are some that are Aelven, by population and architecture. It is from these that Aelves originate.

Bold paragraph. ^ There’s all the lore you need. Carry on building an Aelfish Aelf army, with a cannon or two.
 
Probably not the right place to ask, but do you still have a plan to update "The Beginning" ? @Fhanados
 
@Paul1748 I fully intend to. My whole story arc was thrown into disarray when the End Times resulted in... well, the End Times. I had a plot planned out which I have to adjust somewhat, along with a few characters I now have no real end game for.

History
During the destruction of the World That Was, Slaanesh gorged itself nearly unto sedation on the souls of the people called the Elves, the forerunners of Aelvenkind. When the gods found the Mortal Realms during the Age of Myth, only a few free Aelves could be found, most of whom settled the Realm of Azyr.

Towards the end of the Age of Myth, the Aelven gods found Slaanesh and hatched a plan to free the Aelven souls from the Dark God's essence. Teclis, Tyrion, Malerion and Morathi worked together to drag Slaanesh into Uhl-Gysh and began extracting the souls from its stomach. These souls were divided between the four gods, which they shaped to their wills, creating new variations of the Aelven people[1][2]

Following the Age of Chaos, the civilisations of the Aelves split apart and diverged. The Highborn either retreated to Azyrheim or defended their own enclaves,[4] while the Wanderers and Exiles travelled throughout the Mortal Realms. [5][6]

Related Races
When the Aelven souls were freed from the essence of Slaanesh, they were tainted by the experience of being part of the substance of the Chaos God and became something other than Aelves. The souls free by Morathi were made by her into the Scathborn, such as the Melusai and Khinerai.

Any Aelven souls that were too weak or corrupted became the leathanam, a class of worker slaves.[1] Teclis created the Cythai, but when they rejected his teachings they became the Idoneth Deepkin. [2]

Though not truly Aelven themselves, the Sylvaneth mimic the Wood Elves of the World That Was, who they call "The Protectors." [3]

I had wondered about their origin myself a few times before, never took the time to look it up somewhere.
Now I finally have :)

And IMO, it won't be updated ever.
GW is moving toward new whole armies, we can consider ourselves lucky that Seraphon are still supported.

Their continued existence, new rules in ongoing books, and the rumors of an Order of Azyr kind of disagree that Cities won't see any updates or reworks as time goes on.

I'd like you to clarify exactly what you mean. No argument meant, but they literally showed us two witch hunters that are part of the Order Azyr.
Do you mean a second Battletome?
Or just continued support?
Questions questions. I'd really like to see some new steampunky units like ironweld expansions might bring.

Edit: They could even make some of the engineers elves, since they have small dexterous hands and quick minds... For warmbloods.
 
To be honest I'm not too fussed rules-wise, I was more interested in the lore. I already have a bunch of Wood Elf units that no longer exist so if they ever hit the table there will be a fair amount of improvising.

Sure.
with the first release of AoS, all old armies went into the new game.
then some armies went squatted (Tomb Kings)
some other ones survived, but with a heavy reduction of the playable models (Empire, Dwarfs, various elven factions) with no battletome.
So GW merged those crippled factions into Cities of Sigmar, furtherly reducing the number of models... mostly because there was the need for something that could populate the cities.
Are people still buying models for CoS?
Somehow i doubt it, people with some of the old models probably picked the units of the other races they needed, but that's it.

Actually GW is pushing forward the new armies and to refresh CoS there would be the need for some big redesign of the models, new ones and so on.
I could be wrong but i don't see that happen.
Yeah, witch hunters are a thing, but single models for a warband don't equals new life for a faction that is actually stagnant.

IMO the fate of CoS will be decided when the 3rd edition will be published.
