YUP... didn't you know that an overabundance of unconfirmed rumours is bad for your health like a high salt diet is?
I myself don't care for rumours. I'll discuss them theoretically, but I never put stock in any of them unless they get confirmed officially.
That's probably the best way to go about it. I sometimes get wrapped up in it when the more reliable rumour mongers drop some hints, but I think I liked the hobby before I ever had access to such info. Rumours are always surrounded by a cloud of negativity (and sometimes rightly so), before I started frequenting rumour sites the game seemed far more positive.
I tend to disagree with a lot of the negativity that some people have for this game, a prime example being what's happening right now. A lot of people got hissy over the End Times, saying "oh well now the story's over, that sucks, clearly we're going to get dropped." And clearly, Age of Sigmar indicates that this is not the case. People just tend to enjoy being doomsayers.
I admit that at times I can be a bit of a doomsayer as well. The End Times never sat well with me, and I'm suspicious of this story reboot. I never felt as though we were going to get dropped, I'm just worried that the new world won't match up against the old one they destroyed.
I personally think that the End Times is the best thing to have happened to us in a very long time because whether you liked what happened or not, it advanced the narrative along and Age of Sigmar indicates that this may be the first step in a trend, even if it's going to be short-lived. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have a Marmite plot that some people love and some hate rather than total monotony any day.
I liked the old fluff, even if it remained somewhat stagnant. I would have preferred if the story line was advanced... but not concluded. This new world, seems like a completely new story, so it loses out to the rich history that was developed over the course of 3 decades. Plus I was never really able to get into the End Times fluff, I found it to be boring (in my personal opinion). I didn't even read through all five books, but I heard that it got progressively worse. I'm definitely not a fan of the End Times.
Not familiar with that map, but it looks cool. You're right all we can do is hope that they come up with something better than the bubbleverse!
Ah, but wasn't concluded, was it? It was advanced, the End Times were ironically not an end. And personally I found that the End Times got progressively better, save for one element. (Tyrion becoming a golden boy again. God damn it, they struck gold by having Malekith become a rather good king while having Tyrion become more like the Dark Elves he so hated, it was character development brilliance.) It was pretty much established as good from my eyes because the final victory for Chaos was down to the last possible second, if Mannfred hadn't been a tit at that last moment then Chaos would have lost. I like that close cut storytelling.
Holy crap some people really setting themselves up to be disappointed. Harry is very credible and has stated multiple times that "you can play with your lizardmen in 9th but you won't get any new things for them." Just because we may or may not have gotten a shout out on a promotional poster means diddly squat about what's going to happen. Age of Ultron spoiler: Spoiler I also thought that Captain America's broken shield on the AoU trailers signaled a major move towards Civil War. That wasn't anywhere near what actually was going on.
@KingCheops Harry also said that Lizardmen isn't a special case, most armies are in the same boat: they will all be playable, but not be supported as we know them. Harry's words: - factions are coming to replace everything - army books as we know them will disappear (and he said that this part held no good news according to his opinion) Its the map of FF7 . I posted as an example of something that in my opinion is an abundantly awesome world....not warhammer connected whatsoever.
Here: Harrys own words "Yes. I have tried to explain this ... Will you be able to play with your Lizardmen ... Yes. Will you get more Lizardmen ... Not so much. Will you be able to Play with your Bretonnians? ... Yes will you get any more Bretonnians ... Not so much Will you be able to play with your Empire troops? Yes. Will you get any more .... Not so much .... shall I go on. I have said it depends on your definition of being "Squatted. If you mean are they going to come around your house and take your toys and no one is ever allowed to play with their toys in public again then No ... they are not being squatted. If However if by "Squatted" you mean will they like the 'Squat;s in 40K stop being supported as an army and get no more minis .... then YES they are getting squatted. But I have also said that the Lizardmen are not a special case. They are no more, no less squatted than everyone else. Almost everyone is getting squatted .... as they exist now. The Humans going forward don't have much to do with either the existing Bretonnians or Empire. (I think some of the first rumours I posted about this a couple of years ago were pretty clear and singled these guys out as generic, historical armies that would be going ...I also suggested that generic fantasy Dwarves and Elves would also be going. Even the armies that survive will be very different from the ones we know now. (But none of that means they will not have thought about how you can play with some of your existing armies in the future .... it just means it won't have much to do with the new stuff). My guess is that the box set that is coming is just an introductory game (Heroquest/Space crusade) It can't be anything else form the size of the rulebook. (I have posted to say it is not very big. ) But I was also told by a couple of folks that this set was very much like the 40K set. So i am expecting a box set that is essentially a starter army for humans and Chaos which will swiftly be followed by a boat load of new stuff to match. So if there is an option to play big battles .... which there must surely be ... that will be something else. That will be where you get to play with your existing toys. But my sense of it is that the new stuff is so different from most of the older stuff that it will not sit very well side by side....so if you want to play with the cool kids then you will need to buy the new stuff. I on the other hand was never cool ... even when I was a kid so I am all set"
So the more I hear and read about 9th edition, the more I'm sure I'll just keep playing 8th edition with my brother and a few friends.
