I've never used allies in 2.0 though I understand some of the stronger tournament lists sometimes had Stormcast hero allied in (this was before Malign Portents, I stepped out for awhile until 3.0 launched). But I have the Cities of Sigmar book (I'm really not particularly interested in Stormcast) and there's some fun stuff in there. I know people have been talking about the Battlemage of Ghur, who I've now come around to realizing DOES get that +1 to casts because it was never a Realms of Battle effect it's a Warscroll effect. Folks were also talking about the Frostheart Phoenix, but I don't remember why and don't see anything on its warscroll that really makes it seem any cooler or better than certain units or combinations of units from our own faction. It's pretty expensive at 220 points. It's been out of stock on the US webstore but I just got an email that it's now available for order. Trying to find out if it's worth the 220 points (and US $60!) or not. Who else is allying in units and what are they?
yes Cities is awsome! ok first Battle magi are great but i wouldn't say gurr is the best choice you want to go for phas protection or chain lightning. so the frost heart the thing that makes him so good it the frost aura. modifiers to wound rolls are very rare so most people can't counter that -1. tis drops most wound rolls to 4s or 5s to hit and helps a lot and on top of that it's not a CA and can hit multiple units. second you can upgrade them to the hero vertion giving them a 4+ ward meaning they will be sticking around a long time. so mixing frost aura with our starlight can make several units in our army very tanky. all that on a fast flying monster that can hit rather hard. other great units to look into are doralia ven denst , demigryphs, sorceresses, and phoenix guard
I still want to try out a Kroak list with Knight-Incantor with Everblaze Comet. Not reliable, but for the lolz and all that.
Is taking Bundo Whalebiter the named Mega-Gargant available to Order any good? Or still legal for matched play/tournaments? He is available in the army list builder for any Order army.
Didn't think so for Seraphon with their abundance of monsters. However I've been seriously considering one for my deepkin to bring! A mega-garant supported by some net sharks could be a deadly combo can even give him the tides of death table.
Has anyone considered examining allied unit synergies with our subfactions yet? It's occurred to me that this thread so far as been looking at general allied compliments rather than what might work better in what subfaction.
well allies don't benefit from our subfactions so the synergies are limited to the units they would normally field, and of the allies we would take they go with pretty much anything. there are a few power pairs out there (i will continue to harp on about FHP and warriors) but for the most part our good allies are universal
That much I gathered. Just wondering on a lark as to what might complement which subfactions, be it to augment what it already has by aura ability (the aforementioned Frostheart Phoenix combo you brought up) or to compensate for that subfaction's general shortcomings (such as the relative lack of ranged or magic in Saurus-heavy Koatl's Claw lists).
I wonder what it will cost to ally these guys in, if it's even possible. "Say, about those eggs we were holding for you..." https://www.warhammer-community.com...re-going-to-change-the-mortal-realms-forever/
I'm just glad they aren't SCE-locked/specific...if just barely; the Son version has SCE bracers and collar. Guess I'll be building the Scarred one. I do like the model for the most part, but why couldn't they just have both wings extended? Also, is it just me, or is the face on the SCE-fanboi version a tad derpy?
Based on the flavor text, I think they will both appear in the SCE Tome, but the Red one might have a rule to ally into Order armies. Since he's a loner in a way the Blue one isn't.
