An Acer Liquid z320. Also known as "the cheapest unlocked phone costco was selling two years ago" so I can't imagine the camera is very good.
Specs are here. https://www.gsmarena.com/acer_liquid_z320-7531.php

I'm due for a phone upgrade soon anyway, so hopefully the standards have been raised in bottom shelf phones in the two years since I got this one.

Are there any apps you can use to improve it, I use Camera+ but it's on iphone, DSLR Camera pro for google store?

https://taleofpainters.blogspot.com/2015/02/tutorial-how-to-photograph-miniatures.html although this is iphone related it may help ;)

This shows how ignorant I am, I didn't even realize you could use different camera apps to get different results.

Thank you kindly! I will look into that article and mess around with some of the other apps as well!

Last post for tonight.

WIP shots on a piece of terrain I started today. The final concept will be a starry magical orb on a ruined stone pedestal in the jungle, but today all I got done was the orb itself and getting the terrain assembled and prepped. I am quite proud of how it all turned out considering I don't have an airbrush.

That looks really cool so far ;)

Finished off that orb terrain piece today. Was considering adding some plants on one of the corners but decided I'd already put enough clutter on it. As usual there are mistakes I made and lessons I learned about what I'd do different next time, but I'm quite happy with it.

And a few wider shots to give a sense of scale.

I was going to post this over in the finished terrain thread too

but it hasn't been used in so long I didn't know if it was intentionally being left alone. :D

He’s a little cutie isn’t he? He was given to me in a big box of old warhammer fantasy stuff by a guy who had a small collection gathering dust. The first metal mini I’ve ever painted.

Not much to report on the painting front, just doing some skinks / saurus. Finished off some commission work of D&D minis for a buddy, but I do have one piece of big news...

I GOT A NEW PHONE! Goodbye potato quality pictures, you will NOT be missed.

To celebrate, even though we're about a month past my one year anniversary of starting painting, I decided to take some comparison shots of my first mini I ever painted to my most recently painted skink.

I also took one picture of the first mini, a skink I did about 6 months ago, and my most recently painted skink.

As usual I'd love any feedback or criticism folks have, hopefully now that I have a decent quality camera people can actually pick out what I'm doing right and wrong, rather than just looking at a big blurry mess.

EDIT: Snapped a few more pics.

The Skink looks really good but he looks a bit monotone.

If you look at his crest it blends into the face and body, highlight it at the tips, his tail can also be a lot lighter at the end, think contrast, your highlights are there to draw your eye and accentuate the details.

Massive improvement over a year ;)

Thanks for all the tips and the kind words. I try to to a bit more highlighting each time I do a new project and I keep thinking I've hit the point of doing too much, when clearly I haven't! This is why a fresh pair of eyes helps so much.

It's really hard to over highlight and if you do you can always tone it back with a couple of glaze layers.

Taking a break from skinks for a few days, got a quick and dirty wip shot of my scar vet.
Just finished doing a highlight on the skin and scales, going to do another one in a brighter orange next.
