7th Ed. carnosaur d3 wounds

It says that each unsaved wound done by the carnosaur is multiplied into d3 wounds. Lets say he does a wound against a single wound model, rolls the d3 and gets a 6. So he's done 3 wounds against that model, but the model only has one wound. Do the other 2 wounds then carry over to the other models in the unit, killing 3 total? Are the other 2 wounds just discounted? If they are discounted, do they count towards combat resolution? Thanks.

Against single wound models the D3 wound factor doesn't matter. All exess wounds are lost and they do not over flow into the unit or transfer into additional points for CR (unless in a challenge against a unit champ).

tbh i never found the d3 wounds thing that useful. maybes i need to play more people who use ogres or similar

whell in last game i charged chaos lord and one of carno wound got threw and i rolled 6, so bye bye chaos lord find it prety usefull againts charecters and monsters

Well in 6th ed it used to only work on large targets, which made it just a nice little rule to represent the carnosaur being a big predator and being able to hunt big things easily. Now that it works on everything, well it doesn't really add anything against standard units but it makes things like characters and ogres die a lot easier. Good for overkill in challenges, if you ever need it.

Overkill is probably the most misunderstood entry in the combat resolution table. People see it and tend to think it is referring to the wounds inflicted by each unit. It is totally separate.

Overkill refers to challenges ONLY. It means that you can inflict 5 more wounds than you opponent in the challenge has, and count those towards resolution.

This was a huge presentation flaw in the 7th edition rulebook, they have a "combat result bonuses" page instead of a "combat resolution" page. This is probably what leads people to think overkill actually refers to wounds inflicted in the combat.

Hopefully in 8th the page is "combat resolution", and the first entry is "wounds inflicted".

Though of course, people who read the text beneath the rules will always be explaining them to people who refuse, that is just the nature of life.
