Chalky Paint Residue..

Now, I am painting core troops right now so I am not too worried about it but I will be starting my next projects which will be my Stegadon and my Horned One conversion and I was wondering what the problems would be causing this chalky paint residue on my models.. Would it be the primer? Or would it be from using water to thin my paints? Paints being too thin or too thick.. Its just bugging me and I want to know the answer

Is it happening when you drybrush the models? That is where it most commonly occurs. Drybrushing is generally not a good technique for lizards, unfortunately.

It can also happen if you haven't watered down the paint enough or the paint is too dry. Do you shake your paint bottles before opening them? If not, you should.

They're the main things I can think of off the top of my head.. What brand of paint are you using?

A technique that I use for mixing paint is to add 2 or 3 BBs to the paint jar. This acts like the agitators in a spray can when you shake the paint. Mixing it better.

I am using both Citadel paint and Vallejo paints

I don't think it is because I am not watering down the paint enough but I believe its possible. The chalky residue is from the first coat I believe and there I don't think I watered them down enough but I was just making sure about the primer coating as my spray can IS a little old It's too late to test it on these models (unfortunately its my converted Cold Ones but oh well :/ ) But I'll try it out on a few Skinks before I do my Stego model!
