8th Ed. cold ones weaponry

Inthe army book it says they have spears and hand weapons. Does that mean i can choose what they use at the start of each combat??

It makes no difference. Cavalry spears are strictly better than hand weapons. Unless you want to reduce your damage for some strange reason.

But no, you cannot choose. Per the main rulebook, if a model has a "special weapon" (not a hand weapon), it has to use it.

In theory, as Bob understands it, the spear is to be used in a shattering charge (+1 strength) then cast aside in favour of a close quarters weapon for subsequent rounds of combat. Still no parry save for mounted models

In practice, those cold one cavalry which are not milling around in disarray

will fail their dangerous terrain tests
