converting old skink archers

So, I got some 55 old skinks laying around, and im getting some greenstuff delivered on tuesday, together woth javelin arms and shields. Ive never worked with greenstuff and now i am getting nervous that ill destroy more models than convert haha. Did any of you did conversions onthose models? What are the tricky parts (beside the bows being merged with the bodies) - also' is it better to cut them out or grind them away sanding paper/files?

I got some converted in the galley, under Cohorts.

I think I mostly just carved off the arrows and glued the javelins in their quivers,
glued on a shield, oh and I cut off half the bow, and sharpened the other end into a hand weapon.

I've done this conversion myself and it's relatively straightforward. I used a sharp knife to carve off the quivers, bows and arms and then stuck on the javelin arms and shields that I had spare from the new Skink kit. The shields cover a lot of the body, so you don't have to carve things off perfectly.

well, after boxing day i decided to give it a try, i have never worked with green stuff before, and i cant remember when i modeled something



I've cut away a bow section (hopefully a shield will cover the lower part of the bow) drilled a hole between body and elbow, replaced a hand and removed the quiver. the back was in pretty bad shape when i finished, and now comes the shameful part haha



i tried to make some scales, but i failed miserably every time. finaly i decided to press the putty to shape a spine like ridge on the back and tried to make a shoulder blade/muscles. the remaining green stuff went on to live as mister silvester snake.


Im not doing a job as near as good as most forum members, but hopefully, with time and practice i will improve

Scales are easy, Just make a ball of GS and squash it flat.

these look great! I have about 90 old school skinks but could not bring myself to cut them up. So I decided to just give them a fresh paint job and use my imagination

I took out my rotary tool (im a tool for not thinkin of it earlier) and cut about 20 more apart. Had a rather busy start of the year so i haven't had time to finish the conversions. Regarding the finished model, i did try to paint it but... it ended rather poorly xD



Im happy how the shoulderblade turned out, but i enrolled a begginer course (one organised by the local warhammer club) to get my minnies at least halfway decent looking.

Looks like you are trying to paint everything on one coat ?
typically miniatures are painted in many layers of paint.
(primer, basecoat, main color, highlight, wash)

Tbh, i think my biggest mistake was being scared of ruining a model and using too little paint. I did undercoat the model, but after that i think i just went too cheap with the paints, ending in unevenly painted surfaces and patches of white showing up in corners and receses. Tonight i started working on some shields (since i thing that they are the easiest practice bits due to their flatness and blandness) and i am already much happier with the results. I know its not a piece of art, but at least it cleaner and tidier than my skink
