Just got back from an amazing event in Massachusetts this weekend. Everwinter GT. great mix of armies and players. great community. big highlight was the 5-0 winner kicking butt and taking names with a KC list! Saurus knights crushing it other fun stuff tons of great hobby work x5 shark deepkin list pure blood knight list 100% squig rider list sylvaneth list with beetle queen went 3-2 good amount of bonereaper armies players always outweigh an army list my novice 3.0 hot take: ork players need to rethink their turn 1 alpha strategy. saw so many mawcrushers bounce and die and then lose the game. (including 2 against me in a game) give some CBD to those orks and set up a big turn 2/3 attack. will post more photos later.
Its an interesting list they had. Im happy they did well. 5-0 list was this. fair to say sam is also one of the best players in the country. Former ETC member, won adepticon with the thunder lizard battalion from our first book when everyone had wrote them off. Very talented player.
^^^ yeah, this. it is great to see players like that prove how a meta/"weak" list/units can be disrupted and provide interest for other folks to do that too. doesnt have to be cookie cutter lists
bummed i missed the event and the chance to see your beautiful army again! was planning on going (had my ticket up to a few weeks ago) but unfortunately some things popped up that prevented me from doing it. Looked like an awesome event, congrats to all the winners and glad to hear you had some awesome games!
That's really awesome! Glad to see KC doing some work! Even if it is from one of the top players it's nice to know you can still find a way to play them well
Our battletomb is bonkers. Our "weak" stuff is still stronger than most armies. That said the list is still soild. Slann + celestant + chameleons is a lot of mortal wounds that your opponent can't hide from. Knights have buckets of attacks and benefit nicely from the starpriest. Knights also play nicely into a meta full of monsters. Scar vets are also very strong on the flanks chomping down smaller units. It's nice seeing a list like this but just goes to show you that we can really play around with our book. Seraphon lists are some of the most varied lists on the tournament scene making our army very unpredictable and hard to counter.
Excuse me for the stupid question but I dont understand how this list Can win against top meta army like Archaon, Tzeench, Lumineth ? I understood that he is a very good player but still just how ?
Ha ha. I agree that it does look like an unusual KC list. It would have been interesting to watch him pilot it.
Your army looks so creative and well painted (I've enjoyed the posts in the painting forum). I'm glad you got a chance to play despite not having more "official" GW models. I don't play tourneys, so I don't know how strict they are about that.
got a quick write up of the event on my old gaming group website https://chicagodice.org/2021/12/15/everwinter-grand-tournament-recap/
Because the internet wants you to think that lists are more important than players. Also, matchups and battleplans and which matchup on which battleplan you get are hugely important to ultimately going 5-0. Good players make good decisions and thats why you see the best players going 5-0 with slaanesh and FEC or 4-1 with BoC. People focus way too much on how to make their list better/harder and way less time on actually making better decisions and understanding matchups. Hey man, just so you know the priests "starstone staff" ability is a start of hero phase ability. so you can technically roll it before choosing battle tactics!
Yeah I remember that from our game. But it came up in a match up concerning the exact order of operations for the start of hero phas stuff. I didnt want to argue the point I can see it being both ways. 1. pick battle tactic 2. heroic action 3. any start of turn army stuff (like asterisms) 4. hero phase stuff They seemed pretty strict on that order. so I didnt bother. Didnt care as most of the time it works out either way. Is there some sort of RAW interpretation of what order you do start of turn stuff?
it looks like he almost got max points every round. so id say he was very objective focused. thats a playstyle a lot of aos players just dont get. they want to line up like fantasy and go smash. aos it isnt that game anymore. its 40k lite. you gotta always focus on primaries and secondaries.
