    Sure!

But just to know... do you have at least a vague idea of AoS game mechanics?

If this must turn into a mini-tutorial for AoS, better to know where to set the starting point. ;)

This is a really good point, playing a demo game will really help you see how everything interacts.

    Good. :D

Yeah, the basic thing is that there is no more a confrontation "offensive ability vs defensive ability" to rule if you hit. each unit got a "to hit" value, and that suffices to see if you hit or not.
The same for "to wound", no more strenght vs thoughness.
You hit, you wound, then the opponent rolls the saves (modified by the rend of your weapon).

In the hero phase you activate command abilities and cast spells

No more ranks, and movement is like actual 40k. You go in the direction you want and you see 360°.
Basically, it's a much faster game, in the sense that it's fairly easy to see units that cross the battlefield in 1-2 turns.

Well, one thing at a time.
Staying on topic of our abilities...

Each army (or better, each Allegiance) gains one or more unique ability/ies.

Our most peculiar one, is "Lords of Space and Time".
Basically, each turn you can select one unit and teleport it wherever you want on the battlefield, at more than 9" from enemy's models.
to teleport the unit, you roll a d6: 1-2 it fails, 3-4 you succeed but the unit cannot move (but can shoot and charge), 5-6 the unit can also move.

With a Slann as general and the right command trait, you can teleport up to 2 units each turn.

Plus, with a Slann, we can summon units.
a Slann can cast normally up to 3 spells each turn (it's amongst the stronger casters in all AoS).
if you forego to cast a spell, you gain 3 conjuration points. Obviously, if you forego all 3 spells, you accumulate 9 conjuration points... 10 if the Slann is the general., These points can be increased by other things (special units, endelss spells and so on).
For example, with 12 points, you can summon 3 ripperdactyls, with 24 points you can summon a Oldblood on Carnosaur.

So, we're basically an army that can summon on the fly the units you need in that precise moment, and move your forces across the battlefield with a snap of the fingers.

I’ve observed a demo game of sigmarines vs ghosts (sigmarines seem OP from what I saw, and I don’t like the luck of going twice in a row) but I have never played a demo game. I’d like to play a demo game with lizards if I could

SCE are... strong but not OP IMO. Just rather easy to play which makes them strong even when played by a beginner.

Lizards are the opposite. All of our units are not exactly stellar if you look at their stats, but the synergies can make them great, you just need a bit of experience.

    Case in point:
My friend plays Ironjawz (Black Orcs), and he won 3 of our first 4 games. Back then I wondered how I could possible beat him because my lizard dudes were so much weaker.
Since then I (and our army) have improved so far that he rarely wins a game. And I think that is mostly because I know my army well and can adjust to whatever he brings. Hit and run, slow him down, and play the objectives.

Seraphon are a cool army concerning play style. I also play a Skeleton army, and while they are very strong and quite cool, IMO they are a bit boring to play compared to Seraphon.

Thank you for that information I appreciate the run down. This summoning mechanic, I assume it is exclusive to a few races? Or can anyone do it?

The main difference you will experience between the two systems is what your army in AoS vs WHFBs is strong at. Lizardmen are no longer an army of terrifying reptilian warriors who guard the old places of the world with territorial savagery.

Seraphon play more like a scalpel. Most of Seraphon's units are slightly under powered for their point cost (minus Skinks and Razordons). We make up for this shortfall through summoning and high mobility.

Lastly, I recommend holding back judgement of the random turn mechanic until you have a played a few games. Initially I was not a fan of it. Now I would be very disappointed if it were removed.

Same here. Especially the Endless Spells added a layer of tactic there.

At no point was that line ever meant to be interpreted as anything other than a joke and a nudge back in the right direction. As @Killer Angel said, this thread was about helping a new player get into AoS, not arguing about which discontinued army should be picked instead. I was simply trying to get things back on track, and used the joke comment to attempt to do so in a friendly manner. That clearly backfired.

At no point has either of my “rant” posts been about criticising your opinions and I’m sorry if it came across that way. The first was me simply saying that the way you present your hatred of SCE and AoS (which I completely respect and know that the way you do it is supposed to be a joke, much like my own nudge on track) was perhaps getting a little boring when used without any other content towards a conversation (except when it’s specifically about merits of SCE obviously). This was just a jovial reminder about the purpose of the thread, and was never meant to reflect the merits of anyone’s opinions whatsoever.

In any case, I shall cease being that which I wished to destroy, and bugger off to somewhere I can be a bit more helpful! :p I will say though that although I’ve never played WHFB, I do thoroughly enjoy AoS and would recommend getting into it regardless.

    P.S. Is this better?

Yeah, and those summons work differently to each army.
Khorne accumulates them with destroyed units. Legions of Nagash cannot summon anything but can bring back dead models and dead units if they meet certain conditions.

Fair enough, it would appear as though I mistook your meaning. In your very first post you specifically had tagged me even though I had absolutely nothing to do with it. On its own, I just disregarded it (especially as you clarified your position), but the second one in such quick succession gave me the feeling that there was a bit more to it. I didn't see the intended humour behind your second post because of the more serious tone of the first one. Anyways, I better understand your intention now so I apologize if anything I said was hurtful or offensive and I retract my previous statements.

I still maintain I wasn't the one to derail the tread (though I may have contributed to it :p). Here is my line of reasoning...

    Translation (paraphrased):
    • OP ask: What do I need to know?
    • Person A responds: AoS' rule set is better than WFB in my opinion
    • Person B (me) responds: I disagree with your statement person A (in a comical Star Wars way)

As such, my (admittedly) vague post was still on topic, though I could have better taken the time to explain my position rather than drop a meme. I like Memes, what can I say? :D

Of course, you are correct that things derailed after that point [and likely might not have if not for my post]. Equally true is that your second post didn't specifically target me (that was [an incorrect] inference I made after reading your first post). The trials and tribulations of communication in the absence of body language, verbal tones or facial expressions! Let us put it behind us fellow lizard.

    Oddly enough... yes! :)

Anyhow, I take my leave good sir. Continue the AoS analysis as per the thread's topic.

    ... one more thing...

    I will counter with...
A discussion/thread that doesn't include Tomb Kings cannot be better than a [derailed] thread with Settra! :p

I'm kidding of course. I'm leaving now!! (for real? :angelic:)

    Miss you @NIGHTBRINGER !!

OP, I extensively played 7th, 8th, and now AoS 2.0 and will gladly answer any specific questions you have. In terms of getting into the game, theres really only one way... start playing it. You gotta get some practice games in, get a feel for the mechanics, etc.
