What about the sunfire throwers? I mean, the bow has a -1 rend but only 3 attacks, while the sunfires will most probably have many more depending on who you are attacking or defending against. You still have to pick just one unit (I assume both flamethrowers have to target the same unit) so it's better not to jump in a 4/5 unit melee combat... It should work well against units with many models like skaven or vampire counts, but i don't know which one to use. Bought one the other day and still hesitating lol the big decisions in life
Lol! Yeah I've thought about the throwers but b/c they have less range I took them out of the equation. I want to be able to blast things from a far then toss the remaining units around! The Engine can do the same thing as the bow and sun throwers depending on the rolls too. I'm going to go the engine route the extra "utility" it has seems to keep drawing me in hahaha. Worrrrsssstttt case scenario I'll have to get a Bastilladon hahah.
You want that bastiladon. We all know you know you want it. Haha I still can't say i wanna rely on the 3 attacks on the bow... My tact would leave the steg for the second wave or charging an already in combat unit. Obviously flaming em down before those beautiful horns and tusks do the dirty job. With this said, i think i unconsciously decided to go with the throwers
Haha i really do want it, and Ripperdactyls, and a Trogladon! I usually play against wood elves and use my Saurus Calv with a Old blood on cold one as my commander is really why i want the range. Im trying to scheme a way too have the model vuilt where i can swap out whats on the howdah so im never like "you dummy, why'd you go that route" and saves me money on buying another Steg even though having 2 would be fun haha.
I feel you man, i'm against high elves and their friggin bolt throwers :/ Sooo with either lizards or skaven (my other true love) i just surprise attack them with chams and gutter runners or any unit along side a warp-grinder, since the cannon or catapult will never be in reach. You should consider the chams (at least 10) with oxyotl. In the ling run i think the sun throwers are more of a pain to the enemy...hence using the steg from a flank or side
I'm honestly worried about high elves and dwarves too haha. I dont have Oxy sadly i do have the chief that comes with the Stegadon and hes helped my skinks wreck house. Since ive been on a stand still about what i want to use ive been using my Tomb Kings (my other true love) to my dirty work haha. Its pretty satisfying to be able to shoot back then charge in with my chariots and kill a unit in one turn haha.
Maaaan that chariot! I'm living with an italian friend here in japan and he's bringing back from italy his tomb kings and wood elves...and here he has a mix of high and dark elves :0 I'm with lizards, skaven and some vamp counts. Aaanywho, 1) push the bastildon into the pit hole and then 2) flank with steg for shoot+melee With bow or throwers; you really need another unit to move with...leave him by himself and he'll get pinned down easily
Nice! Im sticking with just the 2 armies. Tomb kings for magic and range shenanigans and lizardmen for good ol im going to beat your skull in haha. My biggest "problem" is im too attached to my saurus calv they were the first models i built/painted and the OLd blood on cold one makes them extra deadly the rerolls of 1 and the extra attacks to the cold ones, ive also had a ton of luck with the Fury of the Seraphon ability.
One thing that holds down the cors are their movement...other than that though they have many attacks! And buffed, even better
I gave them the drum for the double movement perk to get them close enough for a fair charge range the next turn. If they live lol
Personally I think the Sunfire Throwers are better than the Bow. They're shorter range, but the Stegadon carrying them is a monster. And it can hit very hard, unlike the softer one carrying the Engine. So you want it close to the enemy, which negates the Sunfire Throwers' range weakness. Plus it's insanely devastating against hordes.
Question: do both throwers make an attack? It does say "sunfire throwerS" on the war scroll though...
No, you make the number of attacks specified on the Warscroll and none more. Presumably two streams of fire on one target will make no difference, they can't double-burn.
Yeah that's what i assume; i was just being greedy Which reminds me, the same can't be done though eith plague monks from skaven. It you strictly follow tbe war scroll, ONE foetid blade makes 2 attacks and each model can carry two. Plus, while charging they make 3 attacks each. If 20/30 can make a pile in...i'd say any unit is killed lol Furthermore they are loaded with abilities Of course, they have no save, so they get killed in hundreds
I do like the throwers but with my army's current build i feel like the engine or bow are better is all. I played against my Tomb King army with it as an engine I'll admit i got really lucky rolls but i took out Arkhan the black with the d6 damage result and a charge. The few wounds it did suffer i was able to heal while my Temple guard and skinks finished the rest of the tomb kings. Thanks for the continued input everyone. I think im going to make 2 more battles and try the other 2 options just to make sure lol
Lmao i have thought about it way too often. Im torn between that a Bastilladon or Ripperdactyls haha.
