If growing to 1000pts I'm torn between adding Tetto'Eko or a Stegadon. Either way I'll add Saurus for some decent fighters so that's a dead cert. The all Skink list can come later. ;)

    Option #1
    + Tetto'Eko
+ 8 Skinks for Cohort to house Tetto and Kroxigor
+ 15ish Saurus with hand weapons
+ Saurus Scar-Veteran (replace Skink Chief)

    Option #2
+ Saurus Scar-Veteran (replace Skink Chief)
+ 15ish Saurus with hand weapons
    +1 Stegadon

The former gives me a major magic boost whilst the latter gives me more punch in combat. Again I'm up against Warriors of Chaos, Ogre Kingdoms and Dwarfs as primary opponents so Tetto's Comet is mighty tempting... There's also the option of a Bastiladon I suppose for regen save or higher initiative plus bound spell.

I am not in to the tactics for WHFB, but I like to see you do a Steg or a Basti so I am all for option 2 :D

    Grrr, Imrahil

If that's your entire army list, then definitely get a wizard.

Not having one is going to seriously tip the battle in your opponents favour as everything he casts will be adding his wizard class and you'll be adding nothing, not to mention having nothing of your own to potentially buff troops.

The Stegadon is a very, VERY close second though as I think they are an auto-include for a Lizardmen army as a fantastic flanking/back-up unit.

This is what I'm thinking of adding, I already have a Skink Priest in the list in the first 500pts. Sorry if that wasn't clear. :)

Worth noting again though of my opponents I only expect magic from the Ogre player as the Dwarfs obviously don't have any and the Warriors of Chaos player is a Khorne fanboy who only cares about marching, charging, and fighting. :p

If you already have a Wizard in your 1K points line-up then get a Steg.

It's a devastating counter-charger when paired with a Saurus block. With Giant Blowpipes it's both a battering ram to a unit already in combat, chaff destroyer with a charge or with the 4D6 multiple poisoned shots.

Ultimately have decided on the Stegadon because I own that and don't have Tetto yet. I own two Stegs so I will assemble one with Blowpipes, one with Giant Bow, and then buy a third to be an Engine of the Gods. I could magnetize them but I'm genuinely just too lazy to do that. Magnetizing is great in theory but then you have loads of loose bits lying around and that's too annoying for me.

So, my list after the additions will then look like:

    Heroes (194pts)
Saurus Scar-Veteran - Blessed Spawning of Quetzl, Light Armor, Shield, Sword of Might (124pts)
Skink Priest - Spell Familiar (70pts)

    Core (504pts)
Saurus Warriors x15 - Blessed Spawning of Quetzl, Hand Weapons, Shields, Musician, Standard Bearer (180pts)
Skink Cohort x16 - 2x Kroxigor, Blessed Spawning of Quetzl, Hand Weapons, Javelins, Shields, Musician, Standard Bearer (224pts)
Skink Skirmishers x10 - Hand Weapons, Javelins, Shields (80pts)

    Special (80pts)
Salamander Hunting Pack - 3x Skink Handlers (80pts)

    Rare (220pts)
Ancient Stegadon - Giant Blowpipes, 5x Skink Crew with Javelins (220pts)

    Total of 998pts.

In WAP, Blessed Spawning of Quetzl is +1 Natural Armor. Skinks have no NA in WAP, Saurus have a 6+, Temple Guard, Kroxigor and Scar Vets have a 5+, and Old Bloods have a 4+. So this Spawning increases all of that by 1 and gives Skinks a save. Annoyingly, Stegadons are rare choices, as are Bastiladons so, unfortunately, no big monster mash lists for me unless I'm playing 8th.

Eventually, I'll add more Saurus and phase out the Cohort unless I'm running Tetto'Eko, in which case I'll keep it and give him two Kroxigor bodyguards who will be affectionately named Han-Xu and Fran-Xu in the true spirit of punny Lizardmen names.

Hello folks. Bit of radio silence from me as it's been a rough month for mental health, but hopefully on the other side of that now.

I've been making some progress on the next phase of the army. Firstly I set about getting the Stegadon ready which ended up including some level of magnetization to be able to switch between giant bow and blowpipes. I found a very handy YouTube video for this which helped a lot in terms of placement for the magnets. Interesting fact: there is exactly enough room for a 2x1 magnet in the foot of a skink.

I also got my 15 Saurus assembled and did my best to clean up a second hand Old Blood/Scar Vet that I'd picked up a while ago. For such a simple kit there's so much cleaning up to do. I'm keeping the shields separate for ease of painting, much as I did with my Skinks.

Feeling like treating myself, I got stuck right in on the hero model. Access behind the shield was a bit tricky but aside from that a pretty straightforward model to paint. So much of his scales are covered with gold armor that he took much less time than I'd expected. The skin is painted with the same colors as the Skinks, but I've tried to make it a bit darker overall to suggest that thicker hide.

    PXL_20220520_220036532.jpg

I then got my Saurus Warriors all primed up and painted one from start to finish as a sort of test model.

I think he looks great, but my commitment to detail is betraying me now as the scales take absolutely forever to paint due to the sheer quantity of them. As a result, I'm going to paint these in batches of 5 so that I don't completely lose my mind. Overall I'm pleased with how easy they are to paint as really they're just two shades of blue, some gold and some bone. One down, fourteen to go. Then I'll start on the Stegadon! I'm still not 100% certain on what color I'm going to go. I was thinking red like the old box art, but maybe I'll do green for some variation in tone.

Welp that was a slog. More than two months later and I've finally finished the Saurus Warriors. Have to say this took longer than I expected simply because the models are awful and not very fun to paint. The end result is nice it was just painful to get there.

I'll be taking a break on the Lizards for a bit whilst I work on some commissions. Hopefully when I come back I'll have some renewed motivation to paint them. :)

Thanks folks. Hopefully I'll be back to them soon but couldn't turn down the opportunity to be paid to paint for a bit. :D

Just don't paint them to the same dumb standard as me and you'll be fine lol
