Well, remember army books are going to get erratas to update them for 8th edition. They may move the Slann to the third rank.

That would be nice. PROTECT THE SLANN!

I think temple guard will see more use with out the slann in the unit. The champion can take a 25 pts item (from the rumored expanded list) plus a magic banner for the unit. A small unit with full command and magic banner and 25pt item it right at ~250pts and under 200 if you just have a champion.

I don't see this ever happening, they are just way too expensive to be useful without a Slann. A block of saurus would be comparable(if not better with spears), and you would have points left over for other stuff.

They are rarely if ever used without a slann now, and I don't see that changing at all.

On another note a new rumor on warseer says that HW+SH bonus is a 6+ armor save that DOES NOT stack, but also it can not be modified, so say a saurus block with HW+SH got hit by a salamander template with -3 AS, they would lose their main AS but would still have access to the 6+.

With this rumor I do not see changing saurus blocks to HW+SH, it is jjust not worth it without it stacking.

That would really change things up... but I just checked and they have edited the rumor to be "pending confirmation". That would be a big change and would really mess with conventional thinking about weapon choices. Also see that great weapons can be used in two ranks now. Weird.

Isn't it for combat only since it is basically a parry invulnerable save? I wouldn't think it would work vs a salamander template. Very handy for weaker units since they will always get a save in combat no matter what hits them. Oh your dragon has taken a swipe at my skaven slave? Sorry I parried it.

GW fighting in 2 ranks is fantastic for swordmasters, but possibly a bit too overpowered. Especially since plastics are coming in the starter box so every HE player around will have some.

Ya your right strewart I pulled that one out without really thinking about it. But it still makes spear saurus preferable imo, since it doesn't stack.

They've modified the rumor again. Now it is a true 6+ ward save, which doesn't stack with other ward saves. So you take your armor save and then your 6+ ward save. It is still not as good as +1 armor in most cases with saurus, but in cases of things that would wipe out all armor it is a little better (equal for str 6, better for str 7 upward). It is also a very good thing for.. skinks! They will almost always get their 6+ armor save taken out, and currently they have 5+ armor in combat which will usually get taken out anyway. But 6+ ward isn't bad for them, it will help deal with some of the counter attacks when using skrox. Great weapons in ranks sounds pretty good, although none of our rank and file will really benefit.
