The new skele boys look nice from the short films, i really like how their aesthetic seems to combine the new Mortarch/morghast look and influences from Persian, Mongol and samurai armor and clothing.

Bonetithe is gonna be revealed tonight/tomorownight (depends a bit on which time zone they're following).

Also for those who care about 40K the psychic awakening reveal seems to be up around the same time.

Gw does seem to have a thing for overly focussing on 1 faction for extended periods of time and just releasing more mortarchs/chambers/space marines/whatevers

There's some news floating around on the internet of a similar magazine as warhammer 40K conquest but this time for AoS called Warhammer mortal realms. Seems to feature SCE (obviously…) and Nighthaunt (...sigh… what is it with GW and heavily pushing the same factions continuously..). Only the first 4 issues have been leaked, so no idea how far it gets you. But the 40K magazine gave you 2 full fledged armies eventually. And more importantly, a crapton of terrain. if this one gives a similar amount of terrain it might be interesting even with the focus on SCE and nighthaunt… Now if only they'd actually release these things in more than 2 countries outside the UK....

GW have this thing about piling on the armour. They have turned into AOS necrons.
    HATE!!!

They are more like Necrons than Tomb Kings, I don't think they are really comparable as they just aim for another aesthetic.
    Edit: sniped! :D

The more I look at the pictures the more I think it is actually the colors and not the models themselves that put me off. The exception being the new Mortarch, I don't really like that model.

You have to get used to them being kinda beefy (not Skeletons but bone constructs infused with souls). I am a fan of classic skeletons so they might take a while to grow on me. I do like the (quite similar) style of the Morghasts, Arkhan and Nagash.

And that's the reason why I looked more closely and came to the conclusion that I might like them in other colors.
Making the bone a bit more yellowish in color, the shields purple, and the rims of the shields bronze (the paint scheme of my Morghasts) I might like them!

In that we agree, the TK are so far above them that there is no comparison. :D

These look pretty bad in my eyes. A strange cross between Necrons, undead, Tyranids and ugly.

I looked at them some more.
I think what bothers me most is that they emulate the look of faces (including noses) instead of just using skulls for heads.
I get that their lore has a reasonable explanation for that (they are constructs made of bones and look however Nagash/their Mortarch wants them to look).
But I think skulls would look better.

Hm, what looks like another full blown undead race with it's own battletome is about as boring as it can get. The Warcry expansion looks lame too. The 40k reveal was a bit better, but too many unknowns to get hyped about it.

Overall pretty disappointing outlook. On the plus side, enough time for my current projects.

I think they’re still much better than the three Vampire Counts-based armies though, and some of these I think would look pretty decent as part of Tomb King unit conversions if one has missed out on the original stuff and is willing to put the time into it. This chap for example would look great as the priest on a converted Casket of Souls:

These chaps would be good as Ushabti with extra hand weapons as a horde blender (yes I’ve just started reading the To b Kings book I received in the post yesterday) or, in the case of the one at the bottom, with Great Weapons (you’re right @NIGHTBRINGER, these chaps do have a Tyranid feel with their 4 arms - perhaps giving them spare Tyranid Warrior heads would make them a bit more bestial and Ushabti-like):
And these chaps would make good Tomb Guard with hand weapons and shields - I agree with @Aginor that the faces do look odd, but bearing in mind GW now sell a massive pack of skulls, I’m sure this could be amended pretty simply without having to buy VC Skeletons:

As for this new Mortarch, yes I can foretell right now he is going to be horrifically expensive, but the fact that he looks quite like a statue and his large size means that he might make a good Necrolith Colossus or Heirotitan conversion, again if you’re willing to put some effort in:
Also the various heralds/servants/bootlickers would make fun little extras in a Tomb King army - I can certainly see that chap with the scroll following in a Tomb King’s footsteps.

And the best news is that we haven’t even seen all the models yet, so I’m interested to see what else GW cooks up for them.

I agree that on face value these chaps cannot replace Tomb Kings, and that they do look strange in places, but personally I think they look so much better than the Vampire Counts-based stuff GW have filled the Death Grand Alliance with until now, and as I mention above, if one were to do some kitbashing, paint them with gold and turquoise armour and give the bone bits a Seraphim Sepia wash to make them look as if they’ve been lying around in the desert for a few millennia, they would look a lot more Tomb-Kingy (bear in mind I missed out on the old stuff, so anything that has some sort of similarity to a Tomb Kings unit looks much more inviting from my position, especially as I’m certainly willing to kit bash and convert to meet those goals). Between these and Mantic’s Empire of Dust range, I think I could be pretty much sorted if I wished to actively collect a physical army.

EDIT: I've also found that because these cavalry are too large and well-armoured to be horsemen, perhaps they could be proxy Necropolis Knights (considering the original sets are so damned expensive on EBay now), as Necropolis Knights only have 1 less Movement than Skeletal Steeds, and this could be explained by their larger size and bulk?
Tyranid toxin sacs could be stuck somewhere on the monstrous horses to give them poisoned attacks as Necroserpents have, and these chaps have better-looking heads than the infantry do (no Joker grins).

    Hmmm....
I wonder how large they are.
Probably we could get away with replacing the heads with regular skulls...

I think the biggest issue is just that they look massivly out of place when put next to any other undeath unit yet are ultimatly still part of the same faction. They look like they should be their own seperate thing. With the exception of the Morghasts nothing looks like them. And Nagash isn't exactly known for fielding constructs either, just randomly raised bodies & spirits clutching whatever weapons they wear buried in. With only the vampires & necromancers wielding equipment that's maintained in any meaningfull way..

Having them look this different, and be this different (constructs with individual personalities vs. puppetered corpses/spirits) would've made them an actual interesting death force to put opposite of Nagash. Why didn't they do that?

Also, they feel like they just have too much going on. They're too busy. Especially those multilimbed ones and their king. The highlights on their leather-y shield things make them look weirdly sparkly as well.

And again, why are they part of Nagash's forces. Nagash now effectivly has more models than the freaking SCE for crying out loud and the death grand Alliegiance might as well just be "Nagash". The fact that they're split up (slightly) over 3 subfactions (who can use quite a lot of eachothers models anyways) doesn't exactly change that they're literally all followers of Nagash...

Hmmmm, I might take the bird skeleton guy off the Mortarch and do some greenstuff work and he will fit nicely in with the Rourvuk Carrion. The Construct's armour look a tad bit out of place, a random chestplate. Maybe it's the colours as many said makes some parts stick out in a bad way.
Still going to pick up some of these guy, I can imagine the Mortarch being in the £60+ range.

Also many of them have this grin going on, a big smile.
