And don’t forget the Merlin episode with the Dark Tower... pretty freaky in places.

But then Merlin’s a great show, at least in my eyes.

It also largely depends on the races being presented I think. For me I was reading the 4th Edition Dwarf army book from quite a young age, and the one story it featured was a battle featuring Dwarfs vs Skaven. While it has the occasional slightly gory moment (“smashing Skaven heads like eggshells”, “the stench of burning flesh”) it wasn’t too bad. Compare this to some of the stories in the 4th Edition Chaos Space Marine Codex, one centring on Khorne Marines murdering their loyalist brethren and the other featuring Kharn slaughtering his way through some challengers to his position, which are pretty brutal and I say this now at 19 when I’ve seen stuff like Alien. Also quite a lot of the stuff in the Dark Eldar 5th Edition codex is pretty strong stuff, so as I say it mostly depends on the faction I think. The factions in these are Space Marines, Necrons, Stormcast and Darkoath, the first three being much less explicit in the gore theme but the latter might be pretty brutal. I suppose to get the best view you just have to read them.

I’ve been reading Guardians of the Whills of late and while it has little in terms of gore it does have quite a strong theme of fear caused by Saw Gerrera’s terrorism and the Empire’s resultant crackdown upon the Jedha inhabitants. I would certainly recommend it to not just those who love Chirrut and Baze but also to those who felt their characters were underdeveloped in Rogue One - it really examines their personalities and feelings in detail, especially Baze who was the less developed of the two in the film, and puts you into their situation. It charters how Baze got his repeater cannon in the film and also how Saw and his partisans arrived on Jedha and started their own rebellion movement. Pretty good book.

As I mentioned before, it has SCE in it. That is not healthy for any mind, let alone the developing mind of a child. You would be better off giving meth to children. ;)

I’m not sure about that but certainly SCE are bland to the senses. You can certainly find more riveting entertainment elsewhere.

I am not sure how to wrap my mind around those kid's books. Part of me is going "back in my day, we didn't need any kiddy books to get into Warhammer, the miniatures were enough!" Another part is going "well figures they would come up with this idea eventually." And a third part doesn't like that the artwork looks like a late 90's-early 2000's Saturday morning cartoon show.

They should have just left that novel series alone and not brought it into AOS.

I'm happy to see another old world character brought forward to create a stronger link to the world that was. Honestly I'm more invested in AoS lore then the game itself.

Also: new book to be named realmslayer

Why? AoS needs more original stuff like Deepkin and Overlords, not rehashes of Old World content awkwardly shoe-horned into their world.

because. links make it closer to 25 years of background. meaning GW still remembers their history.

I don't see the point of blowing up the whole world if only to bring back all the old world elements. Just my opinion though.

Agree completely. They took the steps to get away from the Tolkienesque fantasy and actually create some of their own narrative and proper IP. The difference between GW story 20 years ago and now is night and day... They are making big steps towards actually coming up with their own stuff rather than rehashing other peoples.

It ain't the 80s anymore (sadly)

I....actually agree with @NIGHTBRINGER more than I thought here.
GW is moving on, and that's nice IMO. They don't forget the past, and they include a bit here and there, but generally speaking the past is the past. The Mortal Realms are fleshed out more and more, and the narrative is developing. The last thing we need in AoS is Karl Franz and his merry crew jump up from some hole in the ground and everything is like The World That Was except the world is gone. Nope. I am not the greatest fan of the fish-people or Kharadron Overlords but at least they are original.

Gotrek is... fine I guess, I don't really care about him yet as I know next to nothing about him. But people in my local shop seem to like him and like to re-tell some of his best stories from earlier times. For them he is a nice memory of past days that deserves to continue his adventures in this new world.
What I basically got is: He is a Dwarf that wants to die honorably in battle like all the others, but he is too damn awesome so he wins all his battles, so he cannot die? That's a fun character so I don't mind seeing how he struggles with that new, strange world he is cast into.

Where did you find that picture? Is there an article that goes with it? It’s amazing

Because Fyreslayers are better than Stormcast and Sylvaneth. ‘Nuff said.

Then they should come up with some new Fyreslayer character and some new original story for him to take part in.

It would be great to see Gotrek return as a miniature though. He hasn’t been a miniature since 4th Edition Fantasy.

I imagine that you would enjoy that immensely. But just as before, it could very well be a new Fyreslayer model, with a new name and a new background/story.

That would be great too. I’m not picky about what named characters we get, just as long as we get some. Was a bit disappointed Fjul Grimnir was virtually the same as an ordinary Runefather, even if his miniature looks badass.

Chosen Axes are out as minis on their own for the first time with a price reduction! Could have been a bit more of a reduction but never mind - at least I have the opportunity to buy them now without needing to play Shadespire and having to get that SCE and Khorne starter set. I can also get Ironskull’s Boyz to put in my Black Orc unit and to use Ironskull as a Black Orc Warboss.
