Those make sense, it doesn't seem possible to turn either of them to vampirism.

What about trolls? Don't they regenerate from nearly anything that isn't fire?

I also can't see a near mountain sized dragon ogre shaggoth being turned either.

That's a good point. Which leads me to my next question. Which races (besides the ever present humans of course) have ever been shown to be turned to vamparism? Has the lore described or featured any other race, besides humans, being turning into a vampire?

There's bound to be some madman who inexplicably likes the ogres, or possibly an experimentally minded one who simply wants to see what happens. Or for some reason thinks that ogres would result in stronger spawn.

If you view the vampire curse as a physical disease/wound, then yeah, trolls should probably regenerate.
But if it's a magical thing that simply corrupts than they shouldn't just regenerate from it.

Ignoring the practical problems posed by biting a mountain, I think they can still be corrupted.
Probably would require a fancy ritual though.

From what I can find it mostly seems to be humans. Though there appear to be some random books/stories with a lone dwarf or elf vampire in it that people don't always consider canon.

Anyway, a new Old World preview at Adepticon is on its way on Wednesday night/Thursday morning depending on where in the world you live... it should be the time of the Beastmen at last!

I just can't see that happening. As far as I know, we've never seen anything bigger than the approximate size of a human be turned in such a way.

Why would they not be considered canon? Were they not released by Games Workshop or Black Library?

    Exciting! :woot:

Sure, it hasn't happened. But there also doesn't seem to be any hard rule against it either.

As far as I understand it the appearances of dwarf/elf vampires is mostly in one-off stories, or in spin-off books, so not main GW lore.
So people just ignore it cuz in (most of) the main lore dwarves/elves seem to be presented as immune.

It's just weird fans picking and choosing canon like they always do :p.

Could also be the when's of such stories being published. The early editions of Warhammer Fantasy were very much a wild west regarding the lore, before it eventually got refined and cemented into what we now know as "canon". Same goes with 40k, where in early editions we had "Obiwan Sherlock Cluseau" (the very first named inquisitor if mine memory does serve). Yes... he was a real character in 40k. The irony of GeeDubs and their very heavy-handed efforts to preserve terms and names as being theirs having such a character is not lost on me.

So, if such stories were released early enough, they'd be part of the retconned aspects of lore.

I find myself aligned with the idea that "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence". We might be in disagreement on where the burden of proof lies.

Vampires being able to turn mountain sized Dragon Ogre Shaggoths to vamparism would be canon redefining. It would absolutely flip the power structure of the entire Warhammer Fantasy world.

So far, you've stated that the only known species to fall to vamprism is unequivocally humans, and with some dispute, Elves and Dwarfs. Is there any evidence at all that suggests that something like a Shaggoth would be susceptible?

That's a really good point. I had not thought of that, but it makes perfect sense.

Really good looking army, even if the style is more aligned with AoS miniatures (which is fabulous, but somehow deviates from the overall mood of old armies).
Not gonna buy it, but i hope someone in our group will :p

There's 1 important limiting factor. One of the things that keep popping up when I look on the internet is that vampirism in WHF seems isn't easy to spread. You can't just bite someone and now he's a vampire, you need to do a whole ritual thing. It's one of the recurring arguments given why it's limited to humans, humans are the only ones who are willing to be cursed for immortality and power, and thus the only ones to activly seek it out. So they're the only easy targets to create new spawn.

In contrast; elves are already powerfull & immortal. Dwarves don't like magic, so they won't do a magic curse. Orks & Ogres are too stupid to be interested in something as complicated as becoming a vampire. And more powerfull creatures like dragons & Shaggoths are also too powerfull to willingly seek out the curse.

So there probably isn't going to be any shaggoth who willingly seeks it out. And well, the average vampire isn't going to be able to subdue a shaggoth for long enough to force him through the ritual. Plus, even if you did manage to create a shaggoth vampire spawn, now you're stuck with this super powerfull, and probably angry underling. So what idiot of a vampire would even try to create a shaggoth vampire?

So, it's mostly just limited to a theoretical "I think it's theoreticly possible, but I doubt it'd ever actually happen".

Honestly, a bit too Total war-esque. But other than that it's fine I suppose.

That Miao Ying model is stunning enough I am considering getting just for display purposes.

Though, now I have to wonder how long it'll be before we see conversions with Prince Imrick riding... Mounting... Atop... Saddling... Alongside her.

Godamnit Imrick, you make it hard to word that without it sounding like something it isn't.

Not getting that complaint. I always felt that Total War was faithful to Warhammer's models, barring a few instances where because they have to be able to move and not be static poses they are adjusted, but still keep true.

But I'll also admit that for as much as I play Total War, I don't spend that much time really examining the unit models.

I like the look of the new Cathay army. @J.Logan I kind of get the comment from @Canas about the models looking a bit too similar to Total War, but I agree with you as well. I think it's just that we have the process flipped. Instead of seeing digital units in Total War inspired by physical models we are getting physical models inspired/designed in the video game. I had the same though (that they look like the TW units) but I realized it shouldn't matter.

If I have a "knock" on the Cathay models it's that, from a distance, the troops look a bit like Empire units. I must confess, when I saw the small photo, and before I read that they were Cathy, I just assumed some new models for Empire or AoS. So, my favorites are the dragon heroes, the balloons, and the sentinels. As a minor pet peeve, I would have liked something other than the "Lumineth cascading rocks" to make Miao Ying look like she's flying.

GW is FINALLY putting objective markers in with the General's Handbook.

I like the look of the new Spearhead setting. Sorry @Lord Agragax of Lunaxoatl, but it appears to be undead again. Maybe not Vampires specifically. That's a pretty great-looking new Spearhead for Lizardmen/Seraphon. Several of the troops that people need to fill up their armies. I wonder if the old Spearheads will be disappearing?

    Wood Elves, at last.

The thing is that most of ToW stuff is quite old, and has a particular style.
Total war was decently faithfull, but it did take some liberties, and has its own stylistic choices.
By sticking so close to the total war designs the Cathay models ends up looking slightly off, and not quite like the rest, in an uncanny valley kind of way.
They're not bad, but something difficult to describe feels wrong.

But that feeling will probably fade with time. It's a pretty minor complaint.

I don't think so. Part of the whole appeal of spearhead was that there would be multiple ready-made boxes that would just give you an army to play with. It needs multiple boxes per faction (or at least, for the diverse factions the more one-dimensional factions like fyreslayers can probably get away with 1 spearhead :p)

I'm a bit confused by the new seraphon spearhead though, it looks kind of bad from a gameplay point of view. Nothing in it is particularly powerful, and it doesn't seem to have much of an identity or synergy. Unlike say the CoS spearhead that's very clearly a gunline spearhead, or the Ossiarch one that's a "monstrous infantry" style spearhead.

Assuming that not-Gor Rok gets new sunblood rules, he might buff saurus infantry, so maybe that's the aim? But yeah... The first spearhead box was saurus plus extra, and now this new one is saurus plus extra. I'd have thought if GeeDubs were releasing a second Seraphon box it would be more in line with the old Skink Start Collecting box. Admittedly, they could be trying to hold off on that one until the skinks get updated models.

I mean, then it still only has 1 unit of saurus. And unless it is a pretty massive buff, it'd still be fairly underwhelming with only 1 unit the buff, and saurus warriors not exactly being a centerpiece unit to begin with.

The only way I can see this work is if the chameleons get a significant damage buff so you can get a gunline going together with the spawn. That's the closest to a theme this new spearhead has.
