some of these are truly impressive

Regardless if you plan to buy anything previewed or not, what is everyone favourite reveal?

Mine has to be the Cogfort. I have no intention of buying one, but it is a pretty cool model and a solid addition to AoS.

I do like the Cogfort. But the vote for me is probably the sci-fi'd half-track and greyhound. Those are what I am most tempted to buy even though I have no actual need for them in any of my projects.

Not the commissar though, as amusing as her customized half-track is.

I agree. That Cogfort is a really neat model. It has so much detail and would look really good painted on the tabletop.

The one thing that might entice me to consider the Cogfort as a desirable purchase is if it was a giant walking tree fort instead.

Alas, even as someone who's got no desire to get back into vanilla 40k for the foreseeable future, I'm a lot more keen for the M3 Half-Track and Alvin Saladin expies.

For me it's the Red Terror as mentioned in an earlier post... an excellent regeneration of a Tyranid character who certainly needed it, given his last model was from 3rd Edition 40K and looking extremely tired.

I was talking to a friend about this, I have no issue with it. I can paint my own printed terrain however I want, and having pre-painted official terrain just saves time that wouldn't have been as enjoyed regardless.

It's all 40K terrain right now, but I wager sooner rather than later we'll get AoS terrain, and that would mean Spearhead can have coloured terrain right out the bat without any issue - as far as I am aware, Spearhead is very set in stone regarding terrain and layouts, so, eh. GeeDubs official terrain is not on my list of terrain I enjoy painting. Like a lot of modern GeeDubs efforts, it's overdone in detail and nonsense.

The bigger question is why I should go to Games Workshop for terrain when I could go to any number of other manufacturers who in some cases are already selling pre-painted terrain sets for a fraction of the potential cost. If the whole thing is terrain size, I guarantee you GW is more likely to make their money selling you 2-dimensional cardboard cutout templates you could make at home yourself on the cheap than the actual plastic itself.

This in turn is also a bit of a corporate matter as well. It's to no surprise that GW is greedy and wants their quick buck to appease shareholders, which is why, in places where GW doesn't have to compete with others (i.e. their miniature ranges and rulebooks), they like to enjoy a 70-80% profit margin on their products. Because of this, by their standards, terrain simply isn't profitable enough to make. The new digi-print tech might be an exciting new feature that could give them a boost in sales, for sure, but like we saw with contrast and texture paints it's going to be entering a very contested niche in the marketplace where others will either do it better for the same cost or cheaper for the same quality.

Oh don't get me wrong, it's yet another instance of GeeDubs seeing somebody else doing something an feeling the need to barge in.

In this case, they saw Archon's prisacast terrain and decide that they needed to have some of that pie.

They did it when Mantic pulled of Kings of War 3rd Ed's Kickstarter, immediately announcing The Old World right then to undermine them, even though it was half a decade before the Old World actually released.

And correct me if I am wrong, but didn't they release new Imperial Knights just after the Kickstarter for Dreamforge Games' Leviathans?

So this is actually rather delayed for them. Though I suppose it took them a while to actually work out the new print tech.

But competed space or not, the GeeDubs fanatics will make it profitable for them. The fanatics do still exist. Somehow. XD

I think it is a pretty cool idea. Quick and easy. If someone wants to paint it in a certain way or for the sheer hobby aspect of it, they can always undercoat the piece and paint over it.

I see this as potentially a big win. The question is, are pre-painted GW miniatures the next to follow?

Don't even have to do that. My understanding is you will be able to buy non coloued versions for cheaper. So hey ho
Even better! :)

I'm very curious as to how good the paint quality will be. Seeing it on a video is one thing, but in-person will be the real test. Hopefully it is solid.
