GW News: Lizard preview #NewAoS

So GW finally updates Marauders

 

I'm not a huge fan of these sculpts. Nowhere near as good as these.

They aren't just Marauders, and we are yet to see if they will fully replace Maraolders (haven't read the full article yet) and current ones will go TOW.

Edit: Ok, I've read the article, Darkoath may not replace OG Marauders since it says they worship Chaos Undivided, and lack some weapon options.

Wilderfiends are literally Spawns gone not that bad. Fingers crossed they also fit a 50 mm base.

 

At first I assumed that this was a Warhammer Underworlds warband, but looking closer I only see a reference to AoS. Does anyone have any more info on this?

Also, when are we expecting this to be released?

I don't play Blood Bowl but I can just see him being a real troll, hooking the ball to his position just when an opposing player is about to get their hands on it.

 

Darkoath are pretty much the AoS reimagining of Chaos Marauders - the article even gives the infantry the name 'Marauders', so I'm pretty sure these are going to replace the old Marauder models, which of course will be given a new life in TOW.

The only model I particularly like out of those - would certainly work as an alternative Razorgor or Chaos Spawn for Beastmen.

 

I actually like them. Far more dynamic than the old ones and have a strong Frank Frazetta vibe to them.

 

They're better than the old ones, but that's a pretty low bar.

 

Some hits and misses, but, in general, I like these models.

 

I'm not a fan myself, but as always, tastes will vary.

 

As nice as the Darkoath models are on their own, they suffer from the same issue that nearly every new GW release within the past 8-9 years has had, if not longer. Monopose or not, they're definitely warband miniatures that wouldn't be out of place in Underworlds, Warcry, or a similar Mordheim-esque game system, with each model being a dynamic character in their own right. Unfortunately, 40k and AoS alike are played at such a scale that multiple such warbands need to be taken in order to play a standard game, which puts the models in an awkward position of being unnecessarily detailed for their respective roles.

 

What does not sell me completely on that line of thinking is that if they are Chaos Undivided, then old maras will get TOW'd and new maras will (probably)
not be able to take a specific mark, so there would be that niche.

 

There's always the idea/possibility that each Chaos god will end up with their own AOS Marauder equivalent instead, like Kairic Acolytes, Bloodreavers and Blissbarb Archers.

 

I might be the only one who, while appreciating the new miniatures coming out and acknowledging their quality, is eagerly awaiting Games Workshop to release a miniature of some special character for the Seraphon, whether it's an old one brought back or entirely new. I want something fresh and unique!

Honestly, the lack of named characters for certain factions is depressing.

Honestly, the only thing I can think of is chaos sigmarines, but that seems rather lame.
But aside from stormcasts going really evil there isn't really anything that fits with this trailer.
