Well, i have 3 old metal wraiths models. I only need a minimum of work to convert them into ophidian. :D

Regarding the multiple crypteks... i am worried.
On paper it's cool, but i fear their utility will be reduced.
I try to explain... the plasmancer is a sort of cryptek but deals MWs and lacks the bonus to reanimation protocols.
ATM the cryptek can take the chronometron... but now it seems that the chronometron will be a tool available to chronomancers (beautiful models, btw).
What if the 'mancers won't have the bonus to protocols?
We risk that all the goodies that actually are nicely available together in a single package, will be divided into different heroes, thus forcing us to difficult choices.

On the positive side, if my prediction is true, we could be less reliant on a single frail hero.

And anyway, the new models are AMAZING. Love them. :woot:

I also love the fact that finally we can field an army with actual choices, and that a destroyers list is now possible.

While I've barely gotten into 40k (I have some Tau, but haven't used them in a long time), I'm happy to see some major updates to a non-Space Marine faction, lol! All the new Necron stuff looks awesome!

Hopefully this means that as they continue to release new codices for the different factions they'll continue to update the other Xenos factions' models as well :)

According to GW the next Xenos Codices will be in early 2021 due to their Imperium and Chaos obsession taking up all the remaining Codex slots for this year, but I wouldn’t worry about it if I were you. GW have always been kind to Tau so Plastic Farsight will probably come round when the next Tau codex does.

I’m still waiting for Tyranids to take the meta by storm...

That's not true, Space Marines and Stormcast get their share of support. :p

The support for the stormcast has been weird though, loads of support at the start, but they've gotten nothing in ages. It's not like the space marines where every release comes with a mandatory primaris luitenant and space marine vehicle regardless of what faction that release focusses on.

Indeed, and other ‘good’ factions like Imperial Guard and Elf factions have had a lot of support over the years.

Tau players can’t really complain either - though they don’t get as much as Imperium and Chaos, since 6th Edition they’ve consistently had some of the most powerful rules in the game, eclipsed only by Craftworld Eldar and varying Imperial factions.

As for the cooler and less human Xenos, the only one of their factions that has ever been allowed by GW to show competence in tournament play is Necrons, and they’ve had their fair share of ups and downs (they were pretty darn good in late 5th/early 6th, then were briefly buffed in 7th before getting powercreeped to death, and in 8th they were subpar). Orks have always been treated as a fluffy faction and have never been given particularly strong rules, and Tyranids somehow always seem to be assigned writers who dislike them and want to nerf them. I actually haven’t had a bad track record as a Tyranid player, but that’s mainly because I play fun games rather than competitive games, and I am aware of the fact that they have suffered competitively for quite a while now.

Yep, that’ll be me, I’ll wait for the rest of my life for it, die and then serve as a Skeleton in the Nehekharan military :p

Don’t say that, GW will hear you and give us another Stormcast release!;)

As long as its an interesting one i don't mind. Plus the boxed sets are usually nice and since I can give the SCE half to my girlfriend I can use the other half myself to build a nice collection :p

Only issue I have with em is that they have 3 tomes by now. I do wish they'd find a way to update rules that didn't require chopping down a forest or using digital stuff.

Yeah, Stormcast definitely got the Space Marine treatment early on, and they still have the largest model range. But it's actually been a while since they got anything, so seeing a release for them wouldn't be a bad thing, imo. AoS just needs to stop cranking out new armies at such a high rate and start updating older model ranges, but of course that's unlikely.

Imperial Guard has gotten decent rules support and occasionally new models, but they have a lot of regiments who's models aren't even manufactured anymore. And GW does certainly love their elves, lol!

Tau have great models and don't really need any major updates, but due to them basically not getting to play in the psychic, charge and melee phases, I think GW has a harder time balancing that faction more than any other in 40k. They always end up either being very powerful due to being able to shoot enemies to pieces in the one phase where they're actually any good, or they suck because they can't shoot good enough to make up for the fact that they get their backsides handed to them in every other phase. 9th Edition rule changes have really screwed them over hard, despite keeping overwatch. So unless they get some really good stuff when their codex does come out, I think this edition is going to bring very dark times for the Greater Good.

Eldar have gotten hit pretty hard as well due to no more stacking multiple negatives to hit, which was one of their strongest tactics before.

Meanwhile Space Marines have it all. They're fast, they're hard to kill, they can kill everything else really quickly, they currently have little to no real weaknesses to speak of.

The unit stats for the new Necrons seem decent, but underwhelming compared to the Marines releases coming alongside them. Hopefully their actual codex will give them some good stuff :)

23 armies and counting, sons of behemath are still coming there's at least one more aelf-god that needs his own private race. I honestly don't get why they keep pumping them out at such a ridiculous rate, while at the same time giving virtually nothing to existing factions, despite certain factions having only around 10 units (fyreslayers, sylvaneth, KO) and special named units being far and few between, like us with our 1 named hero...

their only weakness (lol) is that once i was able to bring a SM force with infantry only, that was capable to deal damage tnx to special weaponry, denying the opponent meaningful targets to its anti-tank weapons.
now, facing SMs, with infantry models that stand on 3-4 wounds each and deals more damage than a leman russ battle cannon, i will have no issues to find targets for heavy weapons.

i don't know if i have to laugh or cry...

That’s something that’s annoying me at the moment. In First Edition Elves were pretty much nonexistent, now in Second Edition they’re getting too much press. If you look at Dwarfs on the other hand the last big release we got was Kharadron way back in mid-First Ed (Cities doesn’t count because they’re predominantly an Empire and Dark Elf alliance with no brand-new models, and the new Kharadron character that came out in February was just one model).

Fortunately Lumineth should be the last of the Elf Factions because Malekith’s faction has been teased as a race of shadow Daemons rather than Elves.

I did notice shooting armies in general have taken a hit with you having to pay Command points to Overwatch with units. I’m hoping this will cut some slack on the more melee oriented armies like Orks and Tyranids.

We haven’t seen the rules for all the Necrons yet, especially in the case of all the stuff that was previewed only on Saturday, so there could be some more powerful combos among those.

Concerning Marines, they may be powerful now but let’s wait until GW gives the other races 9th Ed codices. In early 8th when Marines got the first Codex, they then became powercreeped by all the other races that got later books (which prompted their 2nd 8th release as GW don’t like their favourite race to be beaten all the time), so this maybe the case again in 9th.

I can’t see Lumineth selling well with the crazy prices assigned to their kits (£40 for 5 Cavalry and £35 for 10 small Elf models is BS). If they do, there are a lot of Warhammer players in the world who need their heads seen to.

I mean sure, but it doesn't seem like a very stable long term plan. There should come a point where fewer people will pick up the new armies cuz they're already have every surface of their house covered with other plastic soldiers. And with 23 armies for 1 game you'd think the market would start to get a saturated.

Dead Allegiance had the same issue. Went from almost nothing to 2 complete rewrites of factions & 2 entirely new factions in a single year. And none of their factions are even small. They're heavily involved in the story, and have a metric ton of models. It's also the grand allegiance with by far the best synergy and most coherent front towards the others.
They should really spread that out more.

meh, aelves are popular for some godforsaken reason, so they'l probably sell better than they deserve.

With any luck, tyrannids will get to be the flagship xenos race to kick off 10th edition, when hordes will become the new big thing on the 40K tabletop meta :D

...also where is my new lizardmen underworlds warband!??!! :argh::D
