I remember a rumor intimating that future models would be round-based, but the new 9E rules would permit rectangular ones if you bought the models with the rectangular ones. The one about round for skirmish, squarish for not-skirmish, is kinda plausible too... ..but I'm not believing a word of anything until I see excerpts from the 9E book. Even if GW did a news post I wouldn't believe it without screenshots, at this point. Also, doesn't it seem like Warhammer World's (re?)opening would be a great time to announce WFB9E and generate hype, but for some reason GW isn't? So confused.
More like they force us to buy more product to stay current. Square bases = we buy no new things and give them no more money. Round bases = we have to buy new bases and/or models, and give GW monies
I seriously wouldn't get your hopes up too much based on these pictures guys. Lizardmen will still be around but won't get full support like "proper" armies. That's coming from Harry, Hastings, and the Spanish Sources which are all credible and incredibly accurate about End Times.
I really hope this backfires in GW's face. The way I see it... Square bases = we continue to buy models that we like for our armies Round bases = we buy from other companies and give GW no monies Fixed that for you... Lizardmen will still be around but won't get full any support like "proper" armies. That's coming from Harry, Hastings, and the Spanish Sources which are all credible and incredibly accurate about End Times.
I actually think the monsters look better on round bases. I mean, look at that Bastiladon! That being said, I don't want to give up on ranked formations. I already dislike 40k style of moving everything single model at a time. I'm not going to rebase my models. It would be a huge pain to try to rip off the Saurus Warriors from their bases. And then rebase them, now that I have actually started basing my armies! However, like somebody said, I'm sure other companies will come up with solutions to turn our square bases into round ones.
That depends wholly on low large the round bases are. Are they big enough to fully encompass the square base? If yes, then it is completely possible to create a mini tray that turns squares bases into larger round ones. I'm more worried about the impact this will have on game mechanics. That Bastiladon does look good, but now it has no charge arch... no rear... no flank. For me it ultimately comes down to GW's reasoning for the switch. It is a massive inconvenience to change over and I really hope that GW has a spectacularly clever reason for initiating this, but I am highly doubtful. I don't see myself rebasing any of my models. Some rumours suggest that it will be possible to use both squares and rounds.... but that sounds even worse.
My brain hurts. Not from the obvious fact that there are round bases but from the issue that they seem to be mixing and matching round and oval bases on the LM monsters with no real consensus. GAH! I know one just don't simply apply logic to GW creations but come one, man! BR Agrem
I'm currently in the process of painting up £65 worth of jungle temple resin bases I ordered a while back from Base X of War. So yeah, Imma be p155ed if round bases are made mandatory. TBH I'm not happy that round bases are a thing at all in fantasy. Round and square bases mingling with each other on table tops will look messy and is just aesthetically wrong (in b4 Godwin's law). Not to mention my jungle temple bases look insanely awesome.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned regarding the round/square base discussion is unit fillers. Personally I don't have any because at my current skill level I don't think I could make any convincing or impressive enough that I don't just come across as a tightarse, but some people have really amazing thematic unit fillers. How do you do unit fillers on round bases?
I've only done detailed custom bases to a tiny number of my models. I have suspended my basing work at the first sign of a possibility of round bases. I hope round bases don't become the standard. In the list things I hope 9th doesn't do, "forcing round bases" is roughly tied on my doom list with "dropping Lizardmen." If everyone is on square bases but LM aren't official, at least it would be relatively easy to incorporate an unofficial LM army.
I thought this would be fitting... vote in the poll to see how Lustria Online collectively feels about the possibility of needing to re-base their Lizardmen armies for 9th edition... http://www.lustria-online.com/threa...se-your-lizardmen-army-for-9th-edition.16236/
Everything else aside I'm surprised that more that I look into these pictures I really like how the temple guard look on those round bases. BR Agrem
I'm pretty excited about the round bases. From an aesthetic point of view i find rank and file models too clumpy and limits the amount of poses. Our skinks suffer the most from this I'd say. I've had so much hazzle trying to rank my skinks up properly with their spears and tails sticking out all over the place. Round bases and a skirmish-ish playstyle similar to 40k does make better miniature figures on the table in my opinion. Especially the monsters and cavalry looks sexy. As for the rules themselves I doubt square bases are going out the window. I can imagine that both kinds will be viable options in 9th just like in the pictures. The Lizardmen in the pictures are the same as in our army book. It is plausible that they were rebased to model for the new rule book. Why would they otherwise spend the time and resources to rebase them? Atleast I hope both will be viable since I won't spend time rebasing old figures. I wanna play with new ones! There was a rumor about the outnumbering rule returning, so maybe the rank bonus rules are gone? This does make sense if they do allow both kind of bases.
Ranking those things is a horribly frustrating process. I'm still trying to find a clever system of ranking them up. Maybe creating different levels? Personally I think that a mix of both round and square bases would look horrible on the battlefield. I hope it goes one way or another. I agree. Those pictures are an extremely strong indication that round bases will play some role in 9th edition. We may not know how significant that role is yet, but I'd say it's all but confirmed that round bases are a part of 9th. If the other rumours are true, you probably won't be seeing any new Lizardmen.
In this picture all the figures are totally ...without... bases or am I just seeing things? errhh, failing to see things? I believe the devil is in the details: Do you think these ovals under the cold one cav might be 30mm wide by 60 long?
