I am a new to Warhammer and chose the Lizardmen based solely on the fact that they look cool, have an interesting background and are pretty easy to do a basic paint job on 
I've not played a game of WH as yet, but I do have the rulebook, new and old army book, and the TK army book. The wife likes the TKs and is building an army as well.
