Welcome, Whenever I welcome new players, I tend to suggest you peruse the Tactica index. It's linked in my signature. That should give you more than enough to get started.

If painting is the aspect of the hobby you lean towards, I would say the modeling forum tends to be more active. There are lots of lovely models to look at for inspiration and forumites tend to answer quesiton quickly.
