Is there an easy way to convert cold ones to horned ones? What skinks would be best to use? What rules would i use? (I am having a southlands force and they have these instead of cold ones) Any help would be appreciated thanks

All i need now is the models and thats where i need help.

In case of the mounts just add green stuff horns maybe extend some of the spikes around the face and add some bigger spikes to the tip of the tail...

For the riders... This could be a more difficult task, if you want them to sit properly on the horned ones back. The current cold ones are quite fat... Maybe you can sculpt some legs or do some cutting and gluing and just fill the gaps... What I think is the easiest way is to use the skinks from the terradon box as riders...

According to rules I would use the rules for rippers, but without flying... Instead of the rules connected to flying I would use some rules from the saurus knights or maybe give them the ability to shoot during a charge... Like the old special character that was riding a horned one... Or add the vary fight rule to give them the possibility to retreat from combat.. This would be a kind of tribute to their original special ability.

Thanks for the reply, is there any spare riders from the terradon riders set? because i`ll be getting two boxes of them. could i not just use the above picture for horned one rules? but i like the idea of ripper rules

Perhaps use terradon rider skinks with dark elf coldones ?
(latest models for both)

There is one spare rider in one box... So with two boxes you have two horned one riders...

and that means that eBay is probably full of those spares...

The skink oracle from the trog/carno kit could be another option... If you don't use it as a priest/star priest... On the other hand it might be worth buying a priest and keeping the oracle for a horned one conversion... Or use one of the other possibilities to convert a skink into a priest and save the oracle...

Ok... That makes it difficult to have a left over oracle, indeed... ;)

looks like ive come to a dead end i really can't think of an thing apart from using the spare crew of the bastiladon solar engine but even if that worked it still only be one more horned one rider...

I like the idea of using riders from the terradon kit, but unless you resin-cast a bunch of extras that would be a lot of kits to buy. But you can always try bitz websites.

Only good example I found was the traditional Tichi Huichi's raiders, and you would have to get those on ebay at this point. Plus the models are a tad dated, but can still look awesome when painted well.

Also found this gem; his horns look like something out of the beastmen gors kit. Could be simulated using some extra green stuff to make your cold-ones more... spiked. (link- Inxi-Huinzi)

The only other conversion I found was from dakka dakka, and it was only of a single skink on the older metal versions of the cold ones:

It looks like the artist just made a "saddle" for the skink on top of the cold one's back with some clay/green stuff for the skink skirmisher to sit on. Pretty easy conversion to make; with this method all you would need would be some skink skirmishers and some leftover cold one bodies (which would be slightly easier to find on bitz websites than terradon rider skinks I think).

Good luck if you decide to attempt this project, I would love to see more examples of skink cavalry.

Yes that would be another option... What's your plan for the unit size,by the way? If you're planning to use the rules for rippers three seems a good number for the first step and you can extend it further when you are getting new models that give you new options/opportunities...

if i get round to making them (probably wont but i can dream eh?)'ll post pics but dont expect anything great(or anything at all). i do like the look of the one on dakka dakka the front of its saddle has a face on it thats off the temple guard shield

Yes three would be a good starting number.
