8th Ed. How important is WYSIWYG at your local?

I hear a lot on both sides of the WYSIWYG debate. At my local it is only the 40k players that are die hard "If you dont have a Plasma Gun on the model the model can not have a Plasma Gun!"
The WHF crew is a little more laid back "As long as it is the correct model and it is documented correctly on your roster, it can be armed with anything and be wearing any armour."

So I am just wondering what is it like else where?
 
I just started playing. I think the concept of it... is pretty stupid.
 
Our club is the same as yours SanDiegoSurrealist, with the exception that in most games, proxying a model is ok.

The store I go to is pretty laid back. As long as you take the time to discuss your army and make it clear so as to not seem like your cheating or tricking anyone it's usually cool.
 
Yeah a proxy is in most cases fine for open play, but in league it has to at least resemble what it is supposed to be, no Skaven Slaves as Warriors of Chaos ;)

Like I use the D&D Black Slaad models for my Kroxigors, and the D&D Errtu fig for my Blood Thirster, I also just modeled my own Great Unclean One out of plaster and green stuff for my DoC.
 
With rules expressly allowing the use of obsolete non-WYSIWYG models and allowing the unit to have a minority of current non-WYSIWYG models it gets hard to be too sniffy about WYSIWYG in WHFB.

To be fair to the excessively pedantic among the 40K gamers, the individual weapon loads of individual models are far more significant in 40K. WHFB is a unit v unit game moderated by some unique models whereas 40K is a model v model game overlain with a unit structure.
 
when fun games it doesnt matter, but tournaments u gain points on painting for how much is wysiwyg =)
 
40k definitely tends to be stricter, and we try harder to get right equipment not only for the opponents but to ensure we know what we have. In WHFB it is pretty lapse, let opponent know what the models are representing at the start and its fine.
 
anyone using original scupts they have made?

They reason I ask is I am sculpting my own Great Unclean One and Nurgglings.
