How to paint solardon crystal?

So I got me a bastiladon for christmas, and Ive painted it pretty well. But for the life of me I cant paint the crystal on the solar engine to look decently realistic. I dont have a air brush, other wise I think it could be easy. Does anybody know any tutorial videos on the subject?

Another method (what I use) is wet blending. Starting with a light colour you keep mixing more of a darker shade into it as you paint along the jewel.

Wish I knew about that toturial. Though I am happy with the way my cristal turned out, I feel it could have been better.

I just started drawing lines, diluting paints and drawing more lines untill I was satisfied
