Most of those rumors are true, except Salamanders are not 10 pts cheaper, they are 10 pts more expensive. Razordons cost the same as Salamaners. Both hunting pack can buy 1 extra handler per pack.

The book comes out Feb 7, not 9. And Saurus are only 1 point cheaper, not 2. If equipped with spears, they cost the same as Saurus do now without spears.

Saurus cavalry cost the same as they do now, but get a 2+ AS.

I just read the new book this afternoon and personally I think it's amazing. You'd think the Slann abilities suck, but it's VERY easy to field a Slann who's immune to spells, no magic meapons work on him, gets a extra di on every spell, and has Regeneration. Personally I prefer all that except instead of immune to magical weapons give me all spells from my chosen lore! Also, he can be in a much cheaper, but better, Temple guard unit that's immune to Psych with him, or Unbreakable with either Kroak or Chakax. Btw, special characters are AWESOME! Bok-Ax rules, the albino saurus ass-kicker.

Razordons, amazing, Salamanders, not terrible. Plus, the ability to field 6 stegadons in a 2000 point list? That's just sick.

Salamanders now have lost there pull. But know atleast they have flaming. That pissed me off so much.

I think the Slann is pretty powerful. Terror is about time.

I would have put this in the Army List forums, but I don't have an army list, because when I heard there was a new book coming out, I didn't want to commit to something that would be obsolete, i.e. Slann Generations, Salamander shooting attacks, JSOD.

That's all I really wanted to convey here is that all rumors aside, I know for a fact that the new book is going to alter my army in a big way.

Be all that as it may... I do like the Slann's Ancient Abilities.... and I really can't wait for that book to be in my hands!!!!

Here's the thing, I've read the new book and I think it's great. As far as Slann, Salamanders and JSOD, they are still viable choices in the new book.

First the Slann, cheaper, not a large target and the Disciplines are better than the generations. Knowing all 6 spells from any lore, adding an extra dice per spell, etc. The only thing the Slann is worse at now is ignoring mis-casts, but you get to re-roll on the miscast table, so no big deal.

Second, Salamanders. Sure they are 10 pts more expensive, but the skinks have a higher LD and don't get into combat, so no easy combat res for your enemy. Plus you can buy extra skinks for a higher unit strength. Besides, -3 to armour saves is HUGE, especially since Salamanders cause panic if their shooting causes 1 casualty. A unit of 2 Salamanders with 8 skink handlers is cheaper and can be just as effective as a current unit of 3 Salamanders with 9 handlers

If you just have to have Salamanders more like they use to be, use Razordons. Sure they have to roll to hit after rolling the artillery # of shots, but it's str 4 with no modifiers to hit. It's the same modifier to armour saves with an easier chance to wound. AND twice the number of shots to stand & shoot. Not a bad trade from the current Salamanders.

Third the JSOD, which stands for Jaguar Saurur of Doom (or Death), not Jaguar Saurus of Movement 9. The Jaguar charm is now better because you can charge in the magic phase AND leave combat if you need to. Last time I checked, moving 20" and never being march blocked is better than charging only 18". Sure it can be dispelled, but that just means we have to use up the opponents dispel dice first, a task that will be much easier will all the cool magic abilities we will now have. And the charm is NOT one use only, so we can use it all the time.

It sucks having to rearrange army lists, but I don't think we got weaker in any way. Point of fact is that the above 3 staples of many Lizardmen armies either got cheaper (Slann, JSOD) or more effective as small units (Salamanders) while still being really good units. This just leaves more points to spend on the units that got vastly improved (skink/krox units, stegadons, etc.)

I was kind of hoping for a +1 WS Spawning with the new rules but I guess the new temple guard can be taken regardless if a Slann is present or not, correct?

Yes, Temple Guard are special choices now and do not require you to bring a Slann. However if you do take a Slann, it has to join the Temple Guard and makes them Immune to Psychology & Stubborn.

TG are 16 points and come with shields, halberds, hand weapons & light armour. So if you use their hand weapons instead of the halberds, they get a 2+ save in combat.

since the sallies are using a flame template and can be put into units of multiple sallies

how does the shooting work? can each sallie aim at separate targets or would you just get a bunch of flame templates flying at the same spot?

I heard you can still get more sallys in 1 unit. I'm guessing that you can indeed, shoot in multiple directions.

That's a good question. Their rules say to place the template in the direction you want, they it scatter forward artillery dice ". It say if you have multiple Salamanders, you resovle each template seperatly.

In that case, I don't see why Salamanders couldn't hit multiple units in different directions since they technically don't pick a target.

sally's sound great! except the # scat, but that shouldn't be a big deal.

definatly gonna get some, and i really happy that i pre-ordered the book, so i have it by release.

just one question from my side. have the giant bow for steggis been replaced by a giant blowpipe or can you choose?

in both cases, how do the pipe work, but, you don't have to spoil the things. ;)

Ok, a few questions to answer. Salamanders I agree are awesome, so are the Razordons. As for Bane Head, I don't think I saw it in the magic item list but there's a good chance I missed it. You can choose between giant bow or blowpipe AND if a skink character joins a Stegadon, the crew stays and gets a special machine bonus depending on the character. With a Skink Chief you recieve two giant blowpipes and with a Skink Priest it's an Engine of the god, and these are ancient stegadons I'm speaking of.

As for the Saurus character Box-Ax, the Albino saurus, he's aboslutely amazing. He has the stats of a Scar-Vet (WS 5, T 5, etc. if I recall) and his shield counts as defending an obstacle, so you enemy gets NO bonuses for charging him, though there's already questions as to if he can use the ability for any unit or just himself. Also, I believe he's the fellow with a sword that if he wounds an opponent, they have to reveal all magic items (it may have been magic weapons only) and he destroys them. I think he's also Stubborn.
