Thanks, I am pretty stoked with how they turned out. They have more badass look than the normal warriors. My brother is very happy with them as well Grrr, Imrahil
Thursday was another game night. Battle between man - part 9 We settled on the scenario "Plunder the Camp" in which one the attacker ambush a camp by night (no visibility outside 6" range) the camp has 5 objectives to be set alight by the attacker and protected by the defender. When 2 or less are burned the defender wins, when 4 or more burned the attacker wins. Minas Tirith became defender. My brother marched straight up to the camp to just try and walk over my force. I was baited in to a charge with my two knights, what I eagerly did. Due to bad positioning I only got one shot off doing no damage. One of my knights got killed directly The next round I got priority, but my brother spent a might point to arrange fights on left flank. I then proceeded with the remaining movement. I spent a point of might for a heroic combat with my archers, this way both archers can move another 6" after killing the enemy warrior. The archers moved to the left flank to rearrange the fights. Nothing spectacular happened there. on the right flank I lost a ranger. Next turn's priority went to my brother. I spent another might point to set up fights on the left flank. By pinning my knight with his' my brother managed to sneak in both Black Dragon warriors on the right flank to start burning objectives (At the end of the turn a model in base contact that did not shoot and has not been in combat that round can attempt to light it, rolling a D6 succeeding on a 4+). During combat I knocked 2 guys prone but failed to give the final blow. Both Black Dragons set fire to their objective, setting me on my ultimate win condition right away. I got priority and my brother spent another might point to move the on the left flank first. After that I attacked one of the Dragon Warriors after which the other could run around me to a third objective and charge his Cataphract into me. I managed to kill the Black Dragon and hold of the Cataphract on the right flank. On the left flank I sadly lost yet another ranger. This opened up the camp for more intruders. Luckily the Black Dragon failed to set a third objective on fire. Priority for the next turned went to my brother. I was not able to do anything against it. So He set up the fights and got his Black Dragon archer to an objective as well. My two-handing hero got minced in the fight eventually and not much else happened. This time the third objective was set on fire, but the forth did not. Since my company was broken during this turn we had to roll a D6 which on a 1 or a 2 made the game end immediately. We rolled a 4 so next round. I had at least one round left to make it a draw. My brother gained priority again and held my models from charging the Black Dragons. He killed my last archer and I finally killed his cataphract on the right flank. All of this was just a couple of turns to late. At the end of the turn my brother was able to set fire to the last to objectives and thus claiming a major victory. The dice roll of a 2 made an end to the battle. My brother lost a warrior permanent and bought back a warrior. He also bought a horse for his Sorcerer, because I was working on the model already. I banked my points for next round, there were upgrades gained as well. Grrr, Imrahil
Battle between man - part 10 The second scenario of the night was one we did already: "Hold the Line" but we switched sides. I was the one that had to cross the table and my brother had to prevent me from doing so. Against my policy my brother wanted to use his mage on mount although it was not painted Somehow I decided to make it harder for myself by adding a river to cross My brother send his cataphracts to stop my knights and flank in with some warriors, on the other flank I divided my troops in two forces. All the while shots were fired back and forth with no result. My brother got priority, but I declared a heroic move with my knights to try and give them a head start and make them cross the river. The mistake I made was to hold back my archers for to long, this way they weren't able to help out in close combat. I managed to kill the horse of the Cataphract though. I got priority in the next round and tried to run one knight ahead holding the other back to slay some warriors. His mounted mage managed to just catch up with him, also my two-handed hero got in close combat. My bow hero (top right corner) got a kill-shot in on a Black Dragon warrior. No close combat casualties this round. Next turn I got priority and my brother did a heroic move to pin my knights so they weren't able to run off. The Citadel guard and warrior with spear finally came across the river to combat the warriors waiting for them on the other side. I also finally decided to move up my archers to aid in battle, but that would be quote a lot to late. My brother managed to kill one of the knights striking the rider down but saving the horse. As per house rules he now had a chance to steal the horse, which he of course did succeeded in He stopped my knight from running, but didn't manage to kill him. He sniped my Ranger of Gondor and killed the Citadel Guard in combat. With now 4 of the 7 still alive I had but a mere chance to take a victory. My brother got priority again and trapped my knight completely. The warrior with spear on the bottom got trapped as well and my two-handed hero was still out of range for a charge. My Knight survived yet another round of attacks and no casualties were made across the board. Next turn priority again for my brother and mostly the same fights, this time my two-handed hero just managed to join in on the river crossing. My lone archer was running up the building trying to sneak to the other side. This time around my knight did not survive the load of attacks and my company now was broken. The only 3 survivors on the board had to reach the other side of the table to win the scenario. This was not even a real possibility anymore. At the start of the turn I got priority and had to test for courage. My two-handed hero fled the battlefield, but the last two stayed. Still not under 25% of my starting army I wasn't able to flee willingly. The only fight this turn was at the river crossing with my warrior with spear. He survived. Last turn I gained priority again and the warrior fled so my last model could go home as well. I think I have made three mistakes in this game: 1. Make the challenge harder than it supposed to be by adding the river and having just 3 points of crossing the river. 2. I did split my forces to much, to thinly spread they were easier to counter. 3. my archers stayed back far to long and did not do any significant damage. In the end my brother stole my horse and gained another warrior I now have a knight without a horse and reinforced myself with an extra warrior with spear and one with a bow. For once the map statistics change in the favor of my brother: Next game night will be revenge and painted models only Grrr, Imrahil
Thank you very much I hopefully will have another game night in July, so more will come for sure Grrr, Imrahil
Thanks I have been struggling with the position of the head, but there is just this pose for the hand to find purchase on it in a good way I drilled one of it's eyes out to give it the extra flair Grrr, Imrahil
A little update on the Skink Starpriest During painting I excidently dropped the model and the rats head broke free, the pose will be the same as before, but I will re-attach it after painting Also today I am the only one at the office, so some painting might be happening in between work Grrr, Imrahil
I just noticed I had not shared with you the completed Easterling warpriest on horseback: Grrr, Imrahil
Last Wednesday we had another game night. The Battle Between Men - part 11 We picked the scenario: "Secure the Area" One objective in the middle of the board to be claimed by either one of us. The game would and on the role of a D6 if one of the companies would be reduced to 50% off their starting number. Win condition was having twice as many models within 3" of the objective than your opponent. Setting up your company was decided by the roll of a D6 for each model separate. Each edge was assigned a number and on a 1 it would not come on and on a 6 you got to choose an edge. My brother's company was almost split between two sides with just one Kataphract on his own. Mine was scattered across all four sides. I was first to move first and second turn. With not much happening yet. In yhe shooting phase of the second turn I managed to kill one archer and in return lose a ranger. The Citadel guard and Knight at the right side of the board moved straight forward to the center, but got ambushed by the Warpriest and a Kataphract both killed pretty quickly During the next turn my brother moved his warriors to confront mine and rushed his lonely, still unharmed Kataphract to the center of the board. I decided to charge the warriors with mine and let the Kataphract to my archers. They proved to be capable dealing wirh him. My hero shot the horse while the Ranger shot the rider after he was dismounted. I the turn thereafter my two-handed hero and his support came under attack. Both failing miserably and got killed. This brought me below 50% of my starting number. We rolled a 4 so the game went on. I had to test the bravery of my Men but both my remaining heroes flet with their tail between their legs and thus dropping my to 25% which made the rest leave voluntairely. My brother won the scenario. No real casualties in the end, but my brother got some good level-ups for his heroes and promotions for his warriors. Driving me further back on the map. Grrr, Imrahil
I have been working on these beasties: I assembled twelve wild wargs and a warg chieftain for an upcoming Battle companies scenario. Grrr, Imrahil
I always thought the Wargs in the Lord of the Rings trilogy looked a bit weird like that, with the short, rounded snouts and small ears, compared to the much more recognisably 'wolfy' Wargs in the Hobbit films. However, the GW kit captured that fine with their original Warg Rider kit and with the Wild Wargs. Good to see something more fantastical appear in your Middle-Earth collection . I like in particular the posing work you've done with the one jumping over the big rock on his base. How did you make those rocky bits out of interest?
Thanks mate! I do like these Wargs over the Fell Wargs that came with the The Hobbit release. The rocky bits are just straight up corck (wine bottle corck torn apart and shredded up) Grrr, Imrahil
