Hello all

Just signed up for the forums, although I've been reading the various threads infrequently for a few years. Given my current project, I thought it might be worth posting up some pictures.

So here's my Skink (Star?)Priest. He's very much work in progress, as I've only really spent time on his feathers and gold ornaments, an only then on his headpiece. Nonetheless I need some feedback on his gold bits. This is my 2nd attempt a non-metallic metal, so I would appreciate any thoughts on it so I can work it into the rest of the model.

The body and the staff, just for reference:

Once again, any feedback welcome.

.... Oh I can see the pictures now. :D

Man, the feathers are gorgeous.

Great work! This is awesome! Didn't realize that it's nmm on the head at first... so I guess you performed well on this as well as on the feathers...

Looks great!
Just assemble it. :D

Edit: and Welcome to the forums!

Hello

Been working on the wee fellow a bit more, starting to tidy up the gold and move onto other things. I'm still pretty ropey with NMM, especially the theory, but practice seems to be paying off: the dangly bits on the staff I was able to smash out in about 30 mins, and are probably some of the best looking gold parts. I also tried some freehand scale textures using @neveroddoreven's guide, which was interesting. They could do with a bit more definition, but I don't want to ruin the work I've already put in.

Various bits still have to be addressed, mostly little gubbins such as the cords and staff handle and inlay, but they should be a quick fix. I'm a bit annoyed with the photo, as the colour balance is off (I had to use a slight filter to counteract how dark it got), so for the next WIP shots I'm stealing obtaining a decent camera instead of my phones.

I'm going to return to the scales and try to give them some more definition with some decisive highlighting: at the moment they're looking pretty flat.

Practice is definitely paying off here... looks really good!

Amazing work! He looks exceptionally decrepit, like a right and proper old skink priest about to cast a spell. Well done!

Very nice mini. Your NMM is great. You should paint a white line on the edges

Been a while. My apologies.

The Priest is nearly done: just some claws and the inlay still to do. I put him on his base, which I might still tinker with a bit.

The lighting is pretty horrendous, please forgive me. I'll sort it out for the next set of photos.

In other news eBay trawling has pulled out an absolute gem for me:

Barely used, mostly on sprues. I'm well happy.

I should be able to get some photos of my Temple Guard as they'll be finished within the week.

Nice work on that Starpriest. Some very sharp lines and fine details, I like that. :)

EDIT: I'd also like to know how you did those leaves on the base since they look really great.

Very nice, why are you not happy with the base, looks really good.

Indeed a nice little fellow on a beautiful base...

Dried oregano leaves. PVA to attach them, diluted PVA to fix them, then the green ones got painted and the brown ones got a brown wash. Pretty simple, but a bit of a pain to make them look right: I'm now trying to figure out how to use other leaf shapes.
