I'm weird that way. Take the bowl out of the fridge as I like my milk cold and if you put it in a warm bowl you get warm milk. Then I add the cereal. I know it's odd but it works for me.

If it makes you feel any better, I've had cereal with eggnog when growing up.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch is the exception. You have to add the milk first, and then add small amounts of cereal, eat the cereal, top it off again and repeat.
