Rodents are vermin and birds are annoying. Sentient species, however, did nothing to deserve being killed.
Rodents and birds are sentient species. They eat, drink, have feelings and everything. And yet your people hunt them like animals.
Meh, I don't mind Skaven. I have some Skaven models I'll probably be able to show you all soon along with my Dwarfs, Lizardmen, Tyranids, Necrons, Chaos Marines and Ultramarines 5th Company (I have so many armies that I don't have room for any more, except perhaps Genestealer Cults to ally with my Tyranids). The Vampire Counts are the ones I truly hate. The Vampire Scum shall DIE!
Indeed, the more expanded lore I find out about the Old Republic Jedi, the worse they get. The practice of denying Jedi the ability to have families is foolish. The practice of recruiting very small children and raising them in a cloistered temple with no outside contact and teaching them to meditate their problems away was even more foolish. The Jedi are supposed to guard the social fabric of the galaxy but they are raised to be without love, family or real community. If the Jedi had more street smarts, they wouldn't have gotten conned so easily. If the Jedi were better integrated into mainstream galactic society, the Jedi would not have lost the propaganda war so easily. If the Jedi were less secretive they could have deposed Palpatine while the galaxy cheered them on. That said, the Sith are pretty dumb too. The Rule of Two is a really bad idea. Even with occasional infighting, it's a good idea to step up the recruitment drive. Grey Jedi all the way.
The rule of two is pretty risky, but they weren't faring better when then had legions of Sith. The very nature of the Sith means that the weak will band together to take out the strong, and through that process the order gets weaker.
Although I'm not a SW lore expert, I seem to remember that none of this stuff was canon back in day (OT and post OT). It wasn't until close to prequel years that the most of the ideas about Jedi and Sith structure really got developed, was it? At least I remember seeing comics and books where Jedi had families. Maybe that was supposed to be taboo even then?
Certainly the concept of the Sith did not arise until Episode I, but the idea of the Dark Side cult opposing the Light Side one is a good one. As for material set after the OT in the original EU, Luke changed the Jedi Code to allow Jedi to fall in love and have families as there were so few Jedi around after the Purge - that was the only way the Order could get lots of new members quickly. I don’t know if this was an explanation added in after Episodes I-III came out to keep the lore flowing smoothly or if it originated with the EU work when it came out, but Luke certainly amended the Code to be less strict.
That's possible. I recall the idea of Jedi & Sith were around after the OT, but I just meant how each group was structured didn't come until later (rule of two, no families, etc). I think the comic I remember, that had a Jedi with a family, was set in the Old Republic; or at least prior to Luke.
