Mobile Suit Gundam

Gundam is a series that features mecha with the name "Gundam" The franchise began on April 7, 1979 basically creating the "real robot" genre by featuring giant robots in a militaristic setting, with an attempted sense of realism in robot design and weaponry (by running out of ammunition or malfunctioning).
In the following years, Gundam has been developed in various Mobile Suit Gundam 00 series (which follow the original calendar) and many mainstream Gundam series.
the pictures I've posted were taken from "Gundam MS 8th team", that details the exploits of an Earth Federation ground unit during the One Year War (aka the war depicted in the original series, basically a civil war between the Earth Federation and one of its Space Colonies, which declared independence creating the Principality of Zeon)

It's actually a Japanese cultural icon and one of their most highest grossing media franchise.
