Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 05/08

Wow, that is mental!

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 05/08

A fantastic idea rendered with much skill! Congratulations on something that is already amazing! :D

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 05/08

Time for an update, I'm long overdue!. I have decided to enter a 2200 tourney, made up a list and I will be painting the models in the list first. You can find the lists in the Army list section of the forum.

Here is a list of what I need to build/paint:

10x skink skirmishers with javelins (primed)
10x skink skirmishers with blowpipes (need to be assembled)

10x saurus warriors hw and shield (primed)
9x temple guard (primed)
13x temple guard (need to be assembled)

2x skink priests (both primed)

1x Bastiladon, the monster has been assembled yet I have decided to dig in my wallet and get the hurricanum bit from the Empire kit. I think it really does look better than the crystal.

6x chameleon skink (primed)
6x chameleon skink (need to be converted)

1x Slann mage priest; Palanquin is ready to go but the Slann itsself needs some more greenstuff.

Possibly 3x ripperdactyl. I've been thinking about dropping the terradons for rippers. Would mean more modelling though xD.

So you see Ive got plenty of stuff to paint in two months D:

And now: pics!

Here we have the 90% finished unit filler in the unit. Still need to paint some details like the feathers and claws. Ill get back to that later.

I cannot wait to get this army painted and I hope that I can finish it by the time the tourney starts. I should be able to finish in time if I complete 10 models every week. Should be doable.

In any case, thanks for checking it out!

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 15/08

Woah :jawdrop:
Great Slann conversion man. :meh:

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 15/08

Thanks man! Still need to work on the transition from phoenix to slann though. Gonna sculpt some flames where the feet of the phoenix should be. Not sure how Im gonna paint the rod though. I think I'll just leave it like that, without any GS on the rod itsself. Paint it like a spiral.

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 15/08

Absolutely amazing stuff! What's the spell going to look like? A fiery vortex?

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 15/08

Thanks!

Yeah I was thinking of painting the spiral on the rod like a flaming vortex. Just gotta make get the GS at the base of the Phoenix fixed, looks like a clump of mud right now :p

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 15/08

Wow these look awesome! Everything just looks fantastic. Love the lava theme. You've pulled it off very nicely. I also love the bases and love the jade weapons.

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 15/08

Thanks for the comments guys!

Time for a short update on how the army is going. For now I've got some extra saurus painted up and started work on the Bastiladon. When I was checking Rikard's sculpting log out, I noticed someone mentioning using the "laser" kind of bit off of the Empire Hurricanum set.

I thought, why the hell not and put one together using that kit. This way you guys can check out how it is size-wise before investing, considering its a pricy kit. Well here he is! Still waaaaay WIP though :P

I'm not that good at painting larger models and surfaces. Anyone got some tips and tricks on how to tackle these kind of models. For now the skin is just a basecoat with some washes and drybrushes...

In any case, thanks for checking it out!

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 15/08

the paintjob on the oldblood unit filler and the unit of skink skirmishers is just fantastic. great work all round man.

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 15/08

iI was totaly planing on doing a Very similar Blastidon conversion. :meh:
I'm glad to see that it Totaly works. :smug:

Ps. love the Skink with his tail on fire. :D

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 15/08

Wow, that Solar Engine looks so awesome! Can't wait to see that finished :) I have also thought converting Solar Engine and EOTG with those Hurricanum and Luminark bitz.

I also like very much your Skink Priest conversion, he looks neat! You have really nice scheme in your army.

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 15/08

It looks pretty cool, but I wonder if there's some way to make the sunlight 'collector' still face the sky. You could include a mirror beneath it. It would probably look a little unwieldy, but perhaps you could fit out the base differently. Is it all glued together now?

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 15/08

I had thought of tilting that thing upward, but it felt a bit too bulky. Its a pretty big piece for the model and I thought it might just too much. I'm just envisioning the collector as some kind of powersource, activating the deathray. Not sure on how I'm going to paint the thing tho.

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 15/08

Very awesome stuff sir!

Question: Where is your skink priest conversion from? I love it! Especially the head piece on it.

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 15/08

The conversion is from the new Carnosaur kit, its the Oracle model that is normally mounted. U can just put the model together as it stand pretty good on a base i fyou just GS it to the base and cover it up a bit.
The staff is from the empire wizard kit; and if you make a bastiladon using the hurricanum you can pick up some nice bits for a skink priest.

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 15/08

That really puts the Blast in Blastadon. :D

I really love your lava theme... very fun! Using larger filbert style brushes can be quite handy on these types of surfaces. I use them all the time, but they are especially effective on big guys. They let you 'feather' brush strokes on wide expanses such as the skin and the outer shell...

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 13/09 Bastiladon finished!

I finally finished the Bastiladon!

I'm pretty satisfied even though the skin isnt that good. The washes I used had the habit of "covering" the cracks when I painted over them. But when the paint dried I noticed that there were little bubbles where the lines of the scales cross eachother. Cant manage to cover those up properly.

In any case: pics!

I really need to make a proper light box though my pics arent very good.

Anyways, thanks for checking these out!
