Blog Lava Lizardmen: Updated 13/10/2015

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 13/09

Beautiful! What an awesome model. Now that's what I call a Solar Engine!

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 13/09

Only now noticed this blog, so I'm a bit late to the party. But I must say, wow! Lava theme is one of my all time favourites, but I can't do it myself. My hands are not steady enough and my creative juices flow like sap... That Bastiladon is pure awesome, it's bright colours are really striking. Especially since I have been planning to paint mine with very toned down colours. Using the Empire Luminark is very creative and you fitted it on top of the beast very nicely. Still, I must say, I'm not a fan of your green. Especially the Luminark looks very flat. I'm not sure if it is just the pictures, though. Anyway, I love all the other work you have done, too. Keep it up!

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 13/09

The Solar Engine from the Luminark parts is brilliant! I'm going to have to steal that idea from you as I'm currently working on a Hurricanum and Bastiladon at the same time.

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 13/09

That Bastiladon is hands down one of the best conversions I've seen out of the new kits! I want to see some pics of these bad boys fielded in battle.

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 13/09

Ok so I have beein painting some more Saurus Warriors that should be finished soon. That will complete my 30 Saurus regiment.

I have been working on an oldblood/scarvet conversion on cold one aswell:

It is far from finished though. I have to sculpt alot of scales on shoulders and joints that need to be beefed up. Gotta make those legs thicker. Still need to add some flames aswell.

Also what do you think about the weapon? It is supposed to be a great weapon but I'm not entirely sure of how it looks atm. I might add one of those flaming bola bits ontop of the weapon. So it looks a bit like it is moving.

In any case thanks for checking it out and thanks for all the positive feedback!

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 19/09/2013

Excellent conversion man, :meh:
I never thought to use the drum as a chestplate. :jawdrop:
and all around great job of bashing together some of the new bits. :smug:

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 19/09/2013

Very nice. I really like the new bits provided by the Carnie riders, they stand out much more than the old metal OB/SV models I have.

Is there a lot of greenstuff work required to get the Lizardmen cavalry saddles/legs onto a Dark Elf coldone? Seen a lot of people do it, but never any decent WIP/tutorials.

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 19/09/2013

Love the weapon! That thing is beastly. I would leave it as is, and I definitely wouldn't add the fire bola thing. It's straightforward and brutal, like the Saurus who wields it.

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 19/09/2013

Absolutely brilliant

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 19/09/2013

Great work there, but my only complaint is the weapon. Although its a great conversion I feel that it looks to big, I can only imagine how much that would actually weigh if it were real. Personally I would trim down the shaft to make it look a little more manageable. I'd say for that style of great weapon (blunt hammer) you want the total length to be around the same as the height of the saurus weilding it, halberds can be longer because they're lighter.

Just my thoughts though, looks great otherwise. Keep up the good work :)

My god i LOVE that great weapon idea!!!! hope you don't mind if i steel it xD

Yeah that was what I was thinking, the weapon just seems a bit off atm. Ill get to fixing that.

And Zagreekie, go right ahead man :P

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 19/09/2013

Yeah the great weapon looks great as it is man. That chest plate conversion is pretty creative too!

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 19/09/2013

So an update is long overdue, no pics yet though I'll be taking some tomorrow. I have finished and primed the old one conversion, started work on my skink priest and finished the saurus warrior block.

Still have a long way to go as I need to paint my Slann, 26 TG, 20 skinks at least, skink chief on ripperdactyl and probably fix some mistakes in older models.

Pics will be on tomorrow!

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 19/09/2013

So time for pics!

Somone in the thread asked how I made my cowboy. I have included pics on how I did it!

First off I removed as much of the saddle as possible:

ehe.JPG

Then I prepared the saddle of the cowboy and added a large sausage of greenstuff:

8lt.JPG

I stuck it on, trimmed the excess greenstuff and added some bits to cover up the greenstuff. The weapon has also been shortened and this is the result:

Here is an army pic of what I have painted already:

The skink priest is still a work in progress though. Need to finish the cape, the flame and the base. Need to fix some things aswell:

ymad.jpg

I tried to go for an OSL effect on the staff and the eyes. Doesn't look too bad from a distance.

Here are some pics of the finished Saurus Warrior unit and the Unitfiller:

Thats it for now. I'll be finishing the Skink priest first and then ill probably go for another terradon unit or skink skirmisher unit. I'll see what I feel like painting then :P

In any case thanks for checking this out and if you have any questions, shoot!

Thanks for the cowboy tutorial. I've got about 20 dark elf Cold Ones that need riders and now I know how to go about it!

Love the Jade weapons too. This really makes me wish I had a weekend spare to get started on my Lizardmen. Stupid life getting in the way :(

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 09/10/2013

Update time!

I've finished a unit of 10 Skink skirmishers and the chief on ripperdactyl:

Skink Chief on Ripperdactyl:

And a pic of both units together:

Apologies for the sometimes overlighted pics and stuff, haven't got a proper camera.

I've also ordered 2 Lava Lizards (I will use them as Salamanders) from Dragonblood Miniatures because I believe they suit the army perfectly (it's the last model on the site):

http://www.dragonbloodminis.com/cavalcade/Dragonblood_Sunless_Kingdom.html

If you want to order one of these, be quick because they are closing shop 4th of november!

Anyways, next up will be some Temple Guard and probably those Salamanders.

Thanks for checking it out, feel free to post comments and questions!

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 30/10/2013

Those rippers look furious! How can you make red stand out so much in a lava themed army? It's crazy! After the bastillidon (of course) they were the first place my eyes went in the group shot.

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 30/10/2013

Excellent army you have so far. Loving the pattern on those rippers. Great stuff all around man.

Re: Lava Lizardmen: Updated 30/10/2013

Sooo

A long overdue update. I was being sidetracked by all kinds of stuff, but I have returned to painting my Lizardmen. I will show you guys some WIP stuff, nothing finished yet though!

I just tried to put up some pics but imageshack seems to be iffy, any suggestions for easy photo upload?
